For those of you that use HRM's, do you wear them all day or just working out? I'm looking at the polar FT7 and was just curious if it was comfortable enought to wear all day sitting in a cube farm.

I'm not sure about ones with a chest strap but I wear my wrist watch one all day and check my heart rate when Im at my desk or running errends. I think it's nifty.0

HRM are not meant to be used for long periods of time/all day. They will not be an accurate way of measuring calories burnt for the duration of the day. They make other devices for all day wear for calorie burned...body bugg or gowear to name a couple.
cheers!0 -
I have an Polar FT4, and only wear it when working out. (it has chest strap).0

No.. You should not wear an HRM all day.
If you want one to wear all day look at Bodybug, Body Media Fit or Fit bit.0 -
Yeah, the equations they use to convert heart rate to calories burned are only valid during cardio exercise. They aren't even that great during strength training and certainly don't work when you are resting. Body Bug uses other variables like skin temperatures to get more accurate values.0

I could wear mine all day, but I don't see a point.
I only wear it when I'm working out.0 -

This is good to know. On a lark I decided to wear mine to work today mainly to track my heart rate during my various everyday activities -- like siting at my desk, walking to and from the break room, using the stairs, etc. But I did notice that the calorie count for just two hours was extraordinarily high.
Is it accurate enough for heart rate like I'm using it today?0 -
No, HRMs are not designed to be worn all day. They are meant for cardio workouts.
If you wear it all day the calorie count will be way high and inaccurate.
I am sure you could wear it all day to measure heart rate in order to see how your heart rate varies while sitting at work, walking around the office, playing with the kids, etc. BUT I don't think I would leave it on and running all day. I would just turn it on at different intervals throughout the day to check heart rate then turn it back off. I can only imagine that wearing your Polar all day every day is certainly going to drain the battery way faster than wearing it 1 hour a day doing cardio exercises.0
