So MFP app on my phone says i need to eat 1420 calories a day and thats what ive been doing but im wondering how many calories am i suppost to be eating if my body was in "starvation mode" for a year ? Should i be eating 2,000 to get my metabolism back on track? I have gained about 5lbs from eating 1420 calories a day & i have been working out 3x a week. I do 60 mins of the elliptical 2xs a week and a cardio dvd the other day. Should i be working out more? I am new to this whole eating healthy/ excersising thing i just need some help :) thank you!

In my opinion, and this is an opinion, I'd eat the 1420 on the days that I don't exercise. On exercise days I'd eat 1420 + 80ish% of my exercise calories.

everything they said and also take a look at what you're eating and try to avoid processed foods and opt for real lean chicken and fresh or frozen steamed veggies and track your sodium intake.

I eat back most of my exercise calories & I am not wearing a heart monitor, I just use the one on the gym elliptical.

Wow at my spelling errors! You might consider getting a good HRM. Some of the machines at my gym are way off -- but some match my HRM exactly (the really new machines that integrate with polar).

Last week I gained 5lbs in one day...then realized it was that time of the month -- so remember that too! :)
