I agree with you, but.....why keep picking at this scab.

When this site was created, you or I were not consulted on the rules. We don't have the option of changing them. We only have the option to play or not to play.

If your ability to discuss subjects that this site deems objectionable becomes more important than the Health aspects that it was designed for, you have the ability to deactivate and join another site.

Frankly, I think they should change this Message Board from "Chit-Chat, fun and games" to "B*tch, moan and whine".

You know, I keep most of my opinions on politics, religion, ect. to myself on MFP. I came here to lose weight and I do enough debating these topics on Facebook or in rea life. But it occurs to me, most of the conversations I have are with people I disagree with. They are ususally civil, but have taken a turn for the worse a few times. But the point is, always talking to people that agree with me on everything.....is really boring. Grow a pair and have a spirited debate, heaven forbid some one forces us to think about our positions.

Seriously...who wants to surround him/herself with a bunch of "yes-men"?

I agree that debating is fine. It's when the debate gets personal that it's not so fine anymore. Ie: Your position is lame is a LOT different than YOU are lame.

The trouble with having a split personality is that I often disagree with myself.....you'll get used to it......no I won't! Shut up you two.

Why do people get so mad when somebody starts a post you don't agree with? It's an opinion somebody has if you don't agree with it that's fine. Don't get butt hurt because you don't agree and............... waiting for ninja mod

well see the basic fact is I am always right. and if someone implies something esle is right, even just right for them , it challenges the fact that i am always right , which again basic fact of life.

challenging the basic fact is very offensive to me

Whilst logically you are right unfortunately most people are far from rational in an internet bunfight, errrr, I mean debate.

What some people hear when they hear the statement "your position is lame" is in fact "You are too stupid to come up with a position that is correct or viable and consequently not lame"

The most convincing arguments are ones which make no explicit inferences in this regard. They are factual, informative and allow the reader to draw their own conclusions over what has been discussed. You don't have to be derogatory about the person OR their views to be persuasive.

As everywhere in the world, you can argue about anything. Personally, a reasonable debate about something allowed within the rules of the forum (for example arguing about eating back calories is fine, arguing about what religion or political party is better, is not). Its just when users start to ridicule the person behind the post, as opposed to disagreeing with one of their view points

Some opinions are so stupid they actually hurt people. For example people that oppose vaccinations, etc...

imgur! Thanks mate. I couldn't for the life of me remember the name of that site. I think you mentioned it previously on here if I recall. I will migrate my photos over...

I think the point is this. When someone starts a thread with "Do X, it works! Y is really bad, dont do it! Z does this, no doubt" people get annoyed as either there is no proof, or is just plain wrong. If they said "I do X, it works FOR ME, it might work for you too" etc, then its their own view.

It's when people try to pass off personal experience or preference as fact that annoys people.
  • at least you left if and not reported it. lol
