Why do calories burned for my excercises keep dropping?

I've been doing cardio on the treadmill and I enter my weight, age and keep monitoring my heart rate. I then come to MFP to post my cardio and create my excercise. I put in the activity, the grade, the METS, and the MPH and put in the amount of time and the calories burned according to the equipment. MFP records it and keeps it consistent for a couple days, then all of a sudden the amount of calories burned goes down. I haven't modified my weight, etc. can someone tell me why it does this?

Hmm I don't know, that's strange. Maybe MFP accounts for muscle adjustment from you doing the same activity?

It's an omen. It means you should invest in a heart rate monitor.

The less you weigh, the less you burn for the same activity. Think of it this way, it takes more energy (calories) to carry 250 lbs than to carry 200. So, if a person drops their weight from 250 to 200, they burn less calories when moving.

Funny, but he's also correct. I don't trust the machines at all and noticed a significant difference between what they said I burned and what my HRM (one with a chest strap) said I burned.

I agree with these guys! Good luck!

The machines are set for a default body type, weight etc. MFP is pretty much the same, but I see that it over estimates a burn with some exercises. A heart rate monitor is more accurate, but keep in mind nothing is 100% accurate. As for it changing within the exercise database, I don't see my numbers change unless I modify the minutes, my weight goes down or it changes because I had modified it manually the last time I used it and now it's resetting to it's default values within the MFP database.
