I've been seeing a chiropractor for the past few months and i have less back pain, but my trainer tells me that going to the chiropractor isnt all that great. Can anyone give me more insight on this?

Sorry, I couldn't live without mine. But there are some that don't do much, just suck the money out of you. If he / she follows up with other therapy (ultra sound, electric stim or cortisone patches) then the doc is really trying to help you heal. If possible, when you are better (assuming this is due to injury and not long term), start working on your core muscles. It will help support your back. Then you can work on strengthening your back muscles. But always check with your doctors before starting a new exercise routine!0

personally- I adore the chiropractor, my body feels ten times more supple and I am always in less and often zero pain after I go - love it!0

Some love them, some don't. It is up to each person. I had a car accident about 8 years ago and without the help of a chiropractor I would not have recovered. I could barely walk the first time I went to see him and left his office under my own power with the first adjustment. I love my chiropractor and credit him with my back health.0

It is also likely that your trainer isn't medically trained/educated, but your chiropractor is. I guess I don't know what your trainer would say would be wrong with seeing a chiropractor if you need one.0 -
A lot of trainers and physical therapists are against chiropractors. It only makes sense that our bones are our structure and need to be properly aligned in order for us to function at our best.0

Everyone has there own thoughts. As a Trainer I would recommend Masage Theropy first. I am not a fan of the Chiroprcator.0

There is a certain amount of prejudice against chiropractors by some in the medical profession, and I think it's very unfortunate. There are some problems that only a chiropractor can fix for you... such as if your back/neck/etc... goes out of alignment.
My aunt is a registered nurse and she suffers from chronic back pain due to lifting on the job, but she's too stubborn to go to a chiropractor because she'd rather hobble around like a cripple and take pills and get pain injections in her back every week than to just go to a chiropractor and have him put it right. It's the most ridiculous thing ever... just let the guy put your spine back in place, for crying out loud. I am all for chiropractors when it comes to stuff they're qualified to handle.0 -
There are Chiropractor's who actually work with the body and ALL it's components to keep everything in perfect alignment - those are the good ones. But there are some who just jerk and crack - not cool!0

I LOVE my chiro. Especially new to working out, my back would hurt so bad due to muscles tightening. After I get adjusted I have instant relief. I would be in a lot of pain without going to one.0

Everyone has there own thoughts. As a Trainer I would recommend Massage Therapy first. I am not a fan of the Chiropractor.
Its something about the bones scraping of bones against one another and pockets of air left behind that makes me not a big fan of chiropractors...massage therapy however is something I have fully appreciated.
I hated the sound of it and the way it felt...0 -
I completely disagree with your trainer. If your spine is misaligned, it can affect the function of your entire body. I believe regular adjustments are a part of maintaining my health. Before getting regular adjustments, I had so many problems ranging from heartburn to strong menstrual cramps to migraines to typical aches and pains. Things that a lot of people would just take as being a normal part of life and would medicate for (either over the counter or through a doctor). After getting regular adjustments, those symptoms and more have either disappeared or greatly lessened in intensity. I don't think chiropractic care resolves everything, but I would much rather get regular adjustments to ensure my spine is not the culrprit of a particular symptom and then seek additional medical care for resolution.0

I think chiropractors are good..
Iv never been to one, or needed one..
But my mum has used them, and even though long term she was still in pain, they helped her between sessions..
And then at a later date a doctor found that the back pain was due to extra bones in the neck..
Which had to be removed by surgery, and that a chiropractor couldnt of helped anyway..0 -
My personal opinion -
Your trainer doesn't know if there are underlying issues with you back, your chiropractor does. They are doctors for a reason. I went and saw one and he told me that I have a deficiency in the lower vertebrates (sp?) of my back which was the major cause of my back pain. But, he also told me that I'm overweight and that if I lost even a portion of the weight that my back would start feeling better because the excess weight is putting more pressure on my back than was necessary (which is why pregnant women usually get lower back pain during pregnancy). My chriorpractor told me to see him regularly, stretch, exercise and become healthier and the majority of the problems will resolve. Being active will help lower back pain.0 -
I believe it is 100% up to the chiropractor. You have good apples and bad apples!
My sister-in-law is a PTA and can't stand that my father and I both go to a chiropractor. But she tells me to take some ibuprofen and stretch, whereas the chiro adjusts the alignment in my back, puts me on a massage table, instructs me on ice therapy and core strengthening exercises, and works on my long term health. A good chiropractor makes it his job for you to not have to see him again!
I love going in to see mine, I go in once a month, maybe two months because I have mild scoliosis. When I go in, we talk about everything from head to toe. In the past he has relieved sinus pressure in my face, helped me with a sprained wrist, directed me to a different pillow to sleep on to help with shoulder pain from "sleeping stupid", worked out a knot in the tendons on either side of a finger that was jammed, and many other amazing things I didn't know a "back quack" could do.
You just have to find a good one! Four years ago I moved for a job and decided I was too far away to continue seeing my original chiropractor, and it took me three different offices to find the next amazing chiropractor.0 -
ooohhhh.....i couldn't live without mine! but i have had chronic back problems since i was a teenager. but i do know that there are some out there that give the rest of them a bad name! i go once ever month-to two months to keep my back healthy. If and when i have other issues that creep up that need more attention...usually the problem has disappated after 3 consecutive visits.it would be interesting to know why your traiiner has that opinion. did he/she have a negative experience with one? if it weren't for my chiropractor meds would def be part of my lifestyle and i an thankful to have a healthier alternative. hope you are able to reach a resolution to your question and concern quickly!0

Chiropractors are highly trained, and do incredible amounts of good. There are good ones and bad ones - just like in any profession - but on the whole, chiropractic care is wonderful, beneficial and a real relief!0

I think it is the general consensus of MOST trainers and physical therapists that chiropractors are "bad"0
