ive consistently gone way over my protein on my calorie count... i was wondering if this was a bad thing, and what the consequences would be?

I purposely go over on my protein every day. My $0.02 (take it for what it's worth!) is that MFP sets the protein levels too low. I try to eat between 25-30% of my daily calories from protein.

MFP sets protein low 15% of total calories. A balanced diet can consist of protein up to 30% (double MFP's suggested amount)

You can change your % breakdown by going to goals -> change goals, select custom, make your changes then click save changes.

Agree with all the replies so far. Your ratio should be what works for you, and for most people, 15% is way too low!

I eat 40% protein, 45% fat and 15% carbs. That's what works for me, and you'll find your own sweet spot too. That said, protein keeps you full and keeps your blood sugar stable, so up, up, up, i say! :)

  • if you are just dieting, nothing else I'd go up to about 20%. However, if you are doing any regular weight training at all, then you'd want much higher. I try to keep my breakdown for carbs/protein/fat to be 40/40/20.
  • I'm usually under on my protein, but have been making a real effort to include more. Unfortunately that seems to mean scrambled eggs for lunch a lot of days.
