Warrior Dash - Walking vs running

I'm entered in the Dash for Saturday. Just wondered from those who have done it before, are there many that just brisk walk vs run? I have done a couple of 5K's but I brisk walk them. I don't like to run, hurts my knees and my boobs (even with a sports bra). Doesn't really matter what the answer is b/c I will most likely walk it either way. But I am curious to know if there will be others like me that aren't going to be running full out?

I have heard that running makes for better weight loss, but I'd like to see the runners try a race walking. Race walking is harder than running to me. I go back and forth but mostly walk.0

We have a group who is doing it in October here in STL. I know some people plan on running the whole thing, some jogging, and some doing what I do best wogging (Walking and then Jogging in intervals), and others just plan on walking. I would like to know what other people think about the subject matter and what maybe people have seen others do first hand. Great topic! and good luck this Saturday!0

So jealous! There are NO warrior dashes around me at all, and I think they sound like a BLAST, running or walking. I'm going to have to do one eventually, but since I'll be completely filthy by the end, I'm not looking forward to the long, muddy ride home.... Just do what makes you comfortable and have a great time!0

I'll be entering the one that will be here in AZ next year. It all depends on how I feel and where my fitness level is at. Right now -- I'd probably jog/brisk walk. But I think I may RUN by April.. we'll see0

I've seen both. Walkers/Runners/Joggers/and everywhere in betweeners!
I'm doing one here in Austin in November! Good luck! It's a total blast!
Oh and make sure that you have an early start time! It gets nasty and extra muddy as the day progresses...ewww!0 -
Like you said: Doesn't matter either way. Just be proud to know you are doing it period. Exercising is hard regardless, it's amazing to find a fun way to do it. Go at your pace, but try and push yourself when you can.

I did it earlier this year. People of every fitness level. Plenty of walking going on. But run as much as you can!0

I did it in July this year. Definitely the toughest 5k I've ever done. Mind you, this is Missouri in July...it was 100+ degrees with our high humidity and a good portion of it was in open fields in the sun. They started us out up a HUGE hill (in the sun) which I didn't even get all the way up without walking. Needless to say, I walked most of it and I can run 4-6 miles at home on the hills around here just fine without stopping.
There will be LOTS of people walking, and lots of people running and more people like me that did a little of both. You don't know if the people walking are just catching their breath or have been walking the whole time so don't feel pressure to run if you can't. Honest truth, TWO normal, physically fit guys died this year at the hospital with complications of heat stroke after being hauled away by ambulance in Kansas City. My theory is...they were in a team with their buddies and succumbed to peer pressure...they probably didn't want to stop & walk when they should have. I don't care how many 5k's you've run...you throw in obstacles like they have in the Warrior Dash & you're gonna have to walk a bit. It's brutal. BUT, walking now and again is nothing to be ashamed of. Just make sure you have fun!0 -
I'm so glad I read this. I'm doing this on the 30th here in CA and I was starting to tell my friends (who all plan on running) that I'm going to back out cause I don't want to be the only walker. But it sounds like I'll be able to find someone to be my friend for the day! lol0

I just did this on Saturday. I started a brisk walk/jog at first, but then just went back to walking. I found lots of fun people to walk with at the "back of the pack". We had a blast. I would pass them when I felt like moving faster, then they would pass me. At some point you just get focused in what you are doing and doesn't matter who is with you, at least that's how it was for me.0
