I was wondering if there were any certified fitness and nutrition coaches on MFP? I would like to know what you would have to do to become certified. Thanks!

I'm a certified trainer through AFAA. I have a BA in exercise science, so I took a course and a test to become certified. You can check with your local gym to see if there are any certification courses coming up. Basically you enroll in the class, get your study material and study before you attend the course. After you pass your exam (which is usually a written exam and a practical exam) you'll have to take continuing education courses to maintain your certification and to be eligible to recertify at the end of your certification period.

If you take this route, be sure to spend LOTS of time studying before going to the course. They're typically only a day or 2 and you test at the end of that short time. There's a ton of things you can be tested on...like physiology, anatomy, legal, exercise prescription for different medical issues, etc. It's a lot of learning. So go prepared! Hope this is helpful to you.

I'm Certified and can tell you there's a lot more to it than just learning how to lift and exercise correctly. More than anything, almost all certs will cover how to "SAFELY" handle members, clients and groups who you will end up instructing.
