What the heck is going on?

Okay, so I feel real fat right now. Belly is definitely huge, fat on arms is definitely growing. No, I'm not exercising yet now that I'm back at college, I keep telling myself I will but I don't.
My caloric intake had been mostly 1000-1200 the past two months or so due to no appetite because of medication I was taking, and I recently just started upping the calories to around 1350 now. Well, my tummy is no longer flat. I shouldn't be gaining should I, even though I'm not exercising? I haven't noticed any difference on the scale, but visually I see that I'm pudgier. I walk to and from class every day which is like a total of 20 minutes, and some days its 40.
Do you think the low calories worked for me for a little while, and now its backfiring now that I upped it to 1300? How can I motivate myself to friggen go to the gym? The only thing that discourages me is that I would have to eat more if I went to the gym, and I already feel like I'm eating too much now even though I'm not.
If I'm eating 1350 calories a day I should be losing shouldn't I???

Why don't you try something like the 30 day shred to get your exercise kick-started and build some muscle tone?0

I have 30 day shred downloaded on my computer, as well as p90x and Insanity!
The apartment room I'm living in is not enough space for me to be that active. And I don't want to do them in the living room where my other room mates could see me lol0 -
I would say a lot of things could be going on here. You could have been in starvation mode due to the lack of appetite and low caloric intake, and now your body is carefully storing every extra bit you give it. Or, your diet over the past few days could be too high in sodium, causing bloating. Or, you could be losing muscle mass and gaining a little weight (I think this would happen in starvation mode, as your body won't focus on sustaining muscle, but will focus on storing usable fat? Not 100% sure.) And probably 100 other things that I haven't thought of.
At any rate, do NOT be too hard on yourself. As you said, you just started back to school, which is a LOT of stress. Beating yourself up and worrying that you are failing will only discourage you and make the situation worse.
If it were me, I would try to focus on eating a healthy breakfast (eating well first thing in the morning always makes me feel and eat better throughout the day), and looking for a fitness partner. Don't limit your exercise to going to the gym...take a walk with a friend, or with your IPod. I am a busy mom, and if I had to worry about getting to the gym, I'd NEVER exercise! Instead, for now I focus on getting at least a 20 minute walk in.
At any rate, the most important thing is your health, and eating well and exercising will take care of that AND battling weight gain. Take care of yourself, sister!0 -
All the space you need to shred is enough room to do a push up in. I do it in my bedroom (but my bedroom is a bit bigger than a shoebox). Perhaps you could push your bed up on it's side to make space (this is what my mum does in her shoebox room so she can do yoga each morning).
The other exercise winner is bike riding, just as a means of transport from point a to point b.
I concur, focusing on eating healthy can't go a astray either :-)0 -

Well the healthy eating is not a problem. I just stray from it every now and then but only briefly! I need to focus on getting my minimum calories though, otherwise I will be under at the end of the day. I need exercise. I'm so unmotivated. Do you think its possible that I'm accumulating fat somehow if I'm eating healthy??0
