I just love MFP

Hello all. I am fairly new to MFP as I joined in August of 2011. Thankfully, some of my Facebook friends had been using MFP and one day out of curiosity I just logged on and decided to give it a try. I am so grateful to have started really caring about my health and being so proactive about it because even after just a couple weeks, I feel so much better.

Almost one year ago, my beautiful younger sister (age 41), passed away from breast cancer. Although I have a strong faith, I was devastated. She, along with my older sister, and I always joked that when we were old and widowed, we'd move in together and travel the world. Missing her so much, I became much more inactive and continued to eat. In May of this year I went to see my doctor and was shocked at the weight I had gained. It was then that I sat down and cried to my husband that I needed help. (I didn't want my family to be embarrassed by me and my weight). That day, I joined the gym and have been going at least 5 days a week.

I go early in the morning to jump start my metabolism and feel great the rest of the day. I was down about 10 pounds by July and the weight is still coming off. Once I joined MFP, I realized that this was the missing piece I had been needing to find. I can work out, but I needed to change my eating habits. I come from an Italian family who really enjoys eating and I realized that I CAN eat just about anything, but I must log it. When the numbers are right in front of me, I know how much I can consume for the rest of the day. I am finally realizing just how much "extra's" I was consuming when I wasn't keeping track.

I am finally turning a corner regarding my sister's passing. I still miss her so much, but know that she is proud of me and wants me to be healthy. My faith remains intact and God is helping me be the best wife, mom (soon to be grandma), and teacher I can be. I still have about 35 pounds to go to reach my goal weight and I know I can do it with hard work and dedication.
