For the most part I agree.
Diets fail for a number of reasons:
1) bad advice. Definitely. We listen to people that have no clue, and some doctors have no clue.
2) numbers are deceiving. Not everyone follows the same numbers. Trying to adhere to something that I follow may and probably won't work for you.
3) people want it now. Working for it for a length of time is not pheasable for many. If it were, there wouldn't be so many overweight people.0
