I know you have a lot to lose but you should not be aiming for much more than a 2lb/week loss. Those with 75+ lbs to lose can get 2 maybe slightly more, but 4 and 5 lbs/week is not considered a safe weight loss. Maybe aim for 3 lbs/week until your birthday then lower the expectation to 2 lbs/week, as the less you have to lose the less you should expect to lose.

Most people on MFP have their goals set too aggressively. Once you get to less than 75 lbs to go change the goal to 1.5 lbs/week, then at 40ish change to 1 lb/week and for the last 15 your goal should be 0.5 lbs/week.
  • You can do it! I wish I would have started when I was almost 25 instead of almost 40. I never thought I could but I have learned so much about nutrition and cleansing this year that has made it possible.

When the student is ready the teacher will come. Educate yourself on healthy eating. If you make yourself and health your new hobby you will learn you can lots of good food and never be hungry. It takes time to learn how to substitute lower calorie options so you never feel deprived. But if you put the time in you can do anything. Baby steps. Even little changes make a big difference, but you have to want it and do it forever.
I found if I put smaller portions on my plate I don't have to leave anything. Only make enough for you and whoever you are cooking for to have 1 serving so there is not chance to over eat. I live alone so when I come home from the store I freeze meats and fish in single 4-6 oz. serving portions. When I cook meat I add a ton of no salt seasoning or brush it with mustard and grill most of them. It adds a lot of flavor. If I make potaotes, I only make 1 small, 4-6 oz and most of the time it's sweet potatoes. If I can only find large potatoes I only put 1/2 on my plate and put the other 1/2 in the frig for the next day and add 1 tsp of smart balance olive oil. I will make extra veggies so if I am still hungry after I finish, I just eat another serving of them. I always have a salad after dinner, no croutons and only a tbls of full fat dressing.
I very rarely make sauces or gravy, They are full of calories. I will allow myself to have a tbls of barbeque sauce or ketchup if I need something. Egg Whites are another almost free food. Again I add Veggies and put it on a low carb pita. Thomas's sahara mini's.
Low carb low cal whole wheat bread, pitas and tortilla's are great for sandwiches. I only use 1 oz of meat and 1/2-1 slice of cheese depending on the type. I add veggies to make it more filling. Tomato, lettuce, hot peppers. I use Mayo with olive oil or mustard. But only a little.
If I have pasta, it's whole wheat and I only make 1 oz. with a ton of veggies and tomatoes. Put the pasta in the sauce after its cooked so it absorbes all the flavor and the portions are large because of all the veggies. I don't miss alll the pasta.
I don't exercise. I know it's not something I will keep up so why bother. That's just me.
I have learned to eat less calories and it has worked for me and I rarely feel hungry

I would spread out your goals. Maybe one goal once a month just because sometimes they are hard to reach no matter what you do. I would hate for you to find you are not reaching all your goals for each month and get discouraged.

Don't get to hung up on long term goals....just set goals for each month or maybe 2-3 max then re-evaluate...otherwise its too easy to look at the long term goals and if you are not meeting the early ones get fed up & give up. Put more into your eating & exercise goals than weight ones....you can do it, there are plenty on here that have....and if you want a buddy feel free to 'friend me'.

Your pretty much wanting 4lbs/week until Christmas, right? I think that is WAY to fast!! Slow and steady wins the race! You didn't gain it overnight so don't try and lose it overnight. If I lose 6-8 lbs/month I feel I've had a GREAT month!!

I personally don't believe in setting weight loss goals becuase there are so many factors that can throw you off track that can't be controlled.... But, if you must, try not setting your goal any higher than 2 pounds per week. Your goal of losing 10 pounds by the end of the month is a bit drastic!

Think about it this way - what happens if you don't reach your goal? Will you be depressed and hard on yourself? Will you give up? Losing weight is not about competing with anyone, including yourself unless you're on The Biggest Loser. It should be about getting healthy (and fit too if you're exercising).
