when does muscle building transition to a falling scale?

I have been on the site for many months now- It has now been an honest 7-8 weeks that I have been working at this pretty hard. In that time, I lost 11 lbs. I know many of you will say that's great, but most of those I lost in the first 2 weeks. It has been slow-to-barely-losing since then.

I am still an honest 20-25 lbs above a good, fit weight for myself. I am working out like crazy. I mix up my workouts from strength building classes, to step, spin, boot camp, playing squash, and running. I drink a ton of water. I eat some of my exercise calories but not all. (I can not possibly eat all of that) I burn anywhere from 700-1200 calories a day 5-6 days a week.

My body has changed and inches have come off so I am now assuming that I am building muscle since I work so hard and that is why the scale hasn't moved. My question is, have any of you had this happen? If so, at what point did your body "catch up" and the scale start moving? I can see the firmness in my legs- and feel so much stronger and more athletic- but I am still "big" and I really want to start to see definition and to become slimmer.

I'm not complaining and wanting to give up- I am looking for a light at the end of the tunnel where the scale actually starts to move, too. Or is this a plateau? I really don't know what those are like.

  • This is my opinion,
you only been focusing on losing weight about 7-8 weeks ago , you lost about 11 pound plus inches....depending on how much excercise you did before you start, if you did little , you're body is probably trying to catch up with all the new acitivity so it is holding to fat. Also, eating enough fuel is important and proportion of protein , carbo and fat should be balance. on the other hand , you're losing , it is just slow ( to some people it might be fast). i would say just give your body time and you will see change.
    stick with it
