Exercise Allergy

Another unusual allergy is exercise-induced anaphylaxis. Imagine trying to get a gym teacher to accept your child is at risk of death from jogging or running. For unknown reasons, jogging and running are the primary triggers of exercise-induced anaphylaxis. But this allergic reaction to exercise often occurs selectively, after eating certain foods.

Some of the earliest reports pinpointed celery as a suspect but only when eaten before exercising. The effects of exercise-induced anaphylaxis are similar to peanut allergy- wheezing, hives, breathing difficulty, blood pressure drop, itching, nausea and headache.

Oh wow, that's crazy. I'm allergic to many things, but exercise is not one. For that, I am grateful.

Both of my sons had exerciese induced broncho-spasms when they were younger. Now both workout; one is near normal weight and the other is very lean and fit. I'm just exercise phobic. Sweat burns my skin. One dr actually told me to avoid sweating or overexerting due to rosacea flare-ups. OK! Now I am paying for it.

I have a friend who has this....but she knows it's directly related to her eating dairy foods too close to exercise...in which case she's not allergic to exercise, she has intolerances to dairy that when she ingests them and then her body takes on the stress of exercise, it causes those symptoms. I wouldn't believe for one second that a person is allergic to exercise, but I can believe that exercise can induce symptoms of allergic reaction in an otherwise healthy individual...if that makes any sense.

    my bad!

Here's a little funny for you all to enjoy

Walking for Exercise & Weight Loss

I have to walk early in the morning, before my brain figures out what I'm doing.

Walking can add minutes to your life. This enables you at 85 years old to spend an additional 5 months in a nursing home at $7000 per month.

My grandpa started walking five miles a day when he was 60. Now he's 97 years old and we don't know where he is.

I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me.

The only reason I would take up walking is so that I could hear heavy breathing again.

I joined a health club last year, spent about 400 bucks. Haven't lost a pound. Apparently you have to go there.

Every time I hear the dirty word 'exercise', I wash my mouth out with chocolate.

I do have flabby thighs, but fortunately my stomach covers them.

The advantage of exercising every day is so when you die, they'll say, 'Well, she looks good doesn't she.'

If you are going to try cross-country skiing, start with a small country.

I know I got a lot of exercise the last few years,...... just getting over the hill.

We all get heavier as we get older, because there's a lot more information in our heads.

Every time I start thinking too much about how I look, I just find a Happy Hour and by the time I leave, I look just fine.

As a mom to a child with a severe peanut and tree nut allergy...that is super scary! NOTHING is scarier than anaphylaxis!!!

I have noticed that in the winter time when I work out, my legs start icthing really bad. I always joked I was allergic to exercise. I think it has something to do with the type of materiel the work out pants are made out of.
