Hey MFP!!! I like to know what is a healthy calorie burn a person should have in a day??? I know it depends on their body, but can anyone give me a estimate on it? I burn bout 400-450 a day and I weight 138.4 & 5'4. Should I burn more or is that ok for me. I see people burn like 1000-1200 a day is that going to far......?

the more weight you have to lose..usually the more of a burn you will get. A person who is 230 will burn more than someone who is 130 cause they have more mass to move..The less mass you have to move..usually you wont burn as much..actually, your burn will go down over time..

From what I've read, you shouldn't burn more than 500-700 calories per day. Burning more makes it hard to eat all your exercise calories and it can stress your body, causing a starvation mode-like response. Our bodies honestly don't need those extremely high calorie burns.

I think each person is different, I weigh 230 and burn roughly 600 calories a day thats just hitting the gym for 45min in the morning and aerobics for 20min at night. I have a friend who lost 90is pounds and is obsessed with her numbers now, if she doesnt burn over 1500 a day she freaks, however she looks great!

when I first started out I would look at my husband and say "okay babe, I'll be back after I get my daily 400" because that's how many calories I knew I had to earn in food to not be hungry. I burn anywhere from 150 - 1100 on any given day depending on what I'm doing and how long I'm doing it.

Ididn't as it happens, I got sidetracked by events & ended up about 2000 under, but it only works out at aroun 9 oz spread over the week
