I just noticed someones before and after pics and had to refrain from using the phrase " HOLY COW" I mean this would have been used in a good way but after consideration , I didnt think she would have liked it..What are some of the phrases you have said and later thought OOPS maybe I should have chosen different words !

You know the ones like..WOW LOOKS LIKE YOU LOST A TON OF WEIGHT or DANG, I ALMOST DIDNT RECOGNIZE YOU !!!

Some of the oops I've made (and that I've heard):

    - WOW! I didn't know you were that pretty!
    - You must feel so much better now. I can't believe you lived like that!
    - OMG! You have a waist!
    - Did you have a thyroid problem?
    - Have you had weight loss surgery?
    - Your family must really be proud of you now!

This one has been said to me by mom. I am sure she didn't mean anything negative by it, but it still sorta lingers in the back of my mind.

" You look so good now, I am so proud of you" So was she ashamed of me a 119 lbs ago????

Hey SkinnyWithin ~ I think it's simply an honest, instant reaction. I certainly wouldn't take offense to it AND I'd likely be one of the first to respond in the same way. That's just my opinion though. I can understand, to the same extent how you would think it could be offensive. If I were face to face with someone and said the same, they'd totally see the sincerity in my face and not take offense. I think sometimes it hard to express the same, in words (without seeing the persons face) online. Does that make sense?

I hear "when's your baby due?" or "Are you expecting again?" NEVER under any circumstances should pregnancy be assumed!!! My youngest is 13 months and I still look about 4 months pregnant since I carry all of my weight in my stomach.

    I have heard

"I had to look at that pic twice, it does not look like you"

"You look great now" Leave off the now and it is a great compliment.

LOL Exactly. I do try to weigh (ha!) their intention and respond accordingly. Usually, it's a complete lack of awareness that what they are saying could be interpreted negatively. Heart-felt, well-intentioned compliments are always appreciated, I think.

So even if you had said that (much like EnuffaMyButt said), it likely would have been interpreted as something nice.
