I have done day 2 of level 1 today and my legs hurt like hell. Upper body is fine but my legs are not happy.

Apart from drinking lots of water and doing lots of stretches, what else can help recovery in order to be able to do the 30 day programme?

I was sore for about the first 4 or 5 days and then it got better. I took some Aleve to help with the muscle aches, but my best advice is just to keep on going as best as you can.

Bananas. You also did it two days in a row. You may need a recovery day, especially at first.

I thought you may mean I am bananas for doing it - and I am not sure right now that I can disagree!

if i were you, i would skip at day or two. for me, doing it everyday doesn't work for my body. i was sore as HELL the first two days after i started. i did it yesterday and i can feel it today for sure. if you are set on continuing for 30 days straight, make sure you are eating your potassium - say yes to bananas!

When I was doing 30DS, I found that walking helped stretch out my legs better and they were less sore.

I always take a hot shower right after, start hot and end cool. water & anti-inflammatory. Take it a little easier next time? but yeah, if you're really sore, take a day off - no shame in that (as jillian would say)
  • I find that protein shakes helped me along with hot baths. But it only lasts a few days and its better if you keep moving. Happy Shredding. The results are worth it
  • It does get better...around day five. Stick with it the results are great! Just finished Level 2 day One....now I can't move my shoulders but I hope it gets better around day five!!

I am on my second round of 30DS. you will get sore muscles the first couple of days but that general goes away after days 4 or 5. Not sure how you are doing it, but try doing the beginners version for a while with the squats and side lunges.

Just stick with it. The first three days are the toughest. You'll be fine.

I was like that for the fist 4-5 days and then it went away. You won't be sore the entire 30 days. Just keep going! Your body WILL get used to it.

I just completed day seven today, I too was in horrific pain on day two, god I could have died every time I had to use the restroom, I stood all day becasue sitting scared the life out of me hahahahaha... anyways so day three came and I said I am going to get through this, and the only way I am going to get through this is if I do something to fix it... I stretched ont he floor and rolled ice packs on my quads.. I just rubbed out hte muscles with ice... here it is day seven and I feel great.. I feel a little pain in my calves but that is from being able to push my self harder in each exercise to go a little lower/higher... but it is completely manageable now, where as day two I thought, **** this lady is going to kill me, or my legs are going to fall of, one of the two will happen lol.

Looking forward to that - right now my upper body feels fine so will be good to feel it there and not just the legs.
  • I just finished day 3 today. I did take a break yesterday. I had to. I couldn't walk or do anything. I felt bad about it at first, but now, I am very glad I did. :)

Listen to your body and take a rest day if you need to. There is nothing wrong with that.

I am also on D2 L1 of the 30DS. What I've been doing might work for you too. I have been including bananas, protein powder in my smoothies and fish oil caps into my diet along with plenty of water. I do a 10 min warm up walk on the elliptical before the dvd and try to keep moving for about an hour (doing dishes, laundry, vacuum, etc.) after. Then I take a pretty hot shower ending with cooler water. I did try the shred once last week just to see how I'd feel and the less active I was in the days following the more sore I got. I feel great tonight but I've really been trying to keep busy even if I don't feel like getting up. I think it's helping. Who knows how I'll feel when I get up tomorrow though.

Good luck on the rest of your shred! Go at your own pace and don't beat yourself up.

I agree with treatdream, I eat a banana after any exercise session and try to keep active for a while afterwards. I usually try and do some yoga afterwards but if not I'll go for a little walk after I've had a warm relaxing bath. If not I get really stiff and can't sit down properly!
