Hello, I am new to this and going on my third week. I don't want to give up but I just feel sad! I have not been able to loose 1 pound it is very devastating, sometimes I feel like just dropping everything but something in me pushes me to keep going. Will this get better?

Yes. Once you start to see progress, it will motivate you. Sometimes it takes time for that. Be patient and be strong.0

I hear you!!! I am in the same boat! It is very hard to stay motivated when you are not seeing results. I figure if I am not losing very much weight, I am at least becoming healthier
Add friends!!!! I cannot stress this enough! It really helps you stay on track...I find myself checking in on mfp more often than facebook these days.. feel free to add me as a friend0 -
Yes, I actually gained weight my first 3 weeks. Log everything and stick with it. It will get better.0

Sometimes it takes a little longer to start things off. Know that you're making positive changes and let yourself feed off of that (no pun intended). You'll do fine.0

At least you aren't gaining... I hope you see some results soon0

take your measurements. Don't rely solely on the scale. I didn't think measurements mattered when I first started but I took them anyway (I don't even know why) and they're changing! you can't see it cause you see your body every day - DON'T get discouraged. Everybody hits plateaus. It WILL come off, even if it's only ounces at a time. You didn't gain it in a month and it won't come off in a month but where are you gonna be in six months if you DON'T try?
Drink gallons of water, it really works0 -
I was just having a conversation with a friend the other day about this concept- in the beginning it is so hard to have faith in your efforts and the process b/c you often don't have imperical (sp?) evidence or proof that you CAN lose weight. It may take some time and adjustments here and there to your plan/routine/regime, But it will happen and when you see the results it will empower you to continue...but remember it is always going to be about doing what you need to do and letting your body change at its own pace....you kind of crossyour fingers and hope that change comes sooner than later. in reality it may come later, but the victory being hard fought feels good to be hard won!0

Keep at it! Start to take a look at what you are really eating. Are you estimating calories or Portion sizes? That is one thing that can really throw you off because many people estimate way less calories or that portions are much bigger than they really are. Try as best you can to find the exact calories in a food item and measure your portion sizes. Also, make sure you are weighing yourself first thing after you wake up before you eat or drink anything (and I even make sure use the toilet) before weighing yourself. And always weigh yourself wearing the exact same clothes or no clothes at all. The clothes you wear can make a big difference in your weight as can what you eat or drink in a given day. Try those tips and keep focused and committed.
Also keep in mind if that your body tends to build the muscle from working out then it burns the fat so you may not be seeing much of a weight drop because the muscle your a building out weighing the fat you are burning at the moment. Hang in there. It'll happen.0 -
Hang in there and please don't give up I have struggled with my weight since I had my first Son in 1980...lost alot in 1990 walking everyday with a friend and we joined TOPS which stands for Taking off pounds sensioubly...please forgive my spelling, but in 1996 I was in a bad car accident and with the not working and the meds and depression I gained alot of it back...I am 51 and have seen how being over weight has effected alot of my family members with bad health I want to live a healthy life for myself but also for my family so we all can grow old together...so good luck and be strong...0

See... your problem is you're trying to loose pounds instead of lose them. Haha, just kidding. Seriously, though, 3 weeks is WAY TOO SOON to give up! Look over your diary for the past 3 weeks... are you being 100% honest with yourself? Are you measuring your food and logging exercise accurately? Are you eating healthy foods vs crap foods? If yes... then keep at it. You can do it!!!0

It took EIGHT WEEKS for me to see a one pound loss, working out HARD for an hour six days a week and counting every calorie that went into my mouth.
I'm three months in at this point, and while I can now run a 5k, I have only lost one inch off my waist, none anywhere else, and am only down 8 lbs.
I asked my doctor, and he said some people are just slow starters. Some people just don't lose as fast as others, and nobody is quite sure why.
Have faith in yourself. You will get there.
If you are tracking things like your heart rate and blood pressure, you might see changes there as well. I've seen drastic reductions in my resting heart rate, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels.
So while my body looks exactly the same as it did when I started three months ago, my doctor is ecstatic. "Your body is changing," He told me. "Eventually, something's gotta give."0 -
Wow! Thank you so much, all of you for your words of encouragement. Honestly you give me hope! and you are all really helping me not to give up and to see that I am not the only one struggling. Thank you!0
