Zoloft and weight gain??

Hi all!

I've been on Zoloft (sertraline) since May this year 100mg per day after having a bit of a rocky time post partum. I've been weaning off it since the start of August as I feel a million times better and for me, it has served its required purpose.
I've been working very hard for the past 8-10 weeks with keeping under my calorie targets, getting plenty of exercise daily, and doing mostly the right things but I have NOT been able to shift weight.
I was googling about Zoloft and weaning off it last night and came across LOADS of forums about people complaining about weight gain whilst being on this medication. I'm wondering if this might be making things harder for me?? Today is actually my third day in a row with NO Zoloft whatsoever so I'm hoping if this IS the case, then over the next few weeks I should see a shift down in my weight.
I was just curious if any other members out there had experienced this??? :ohwell:

i've been taking zoloft for years. but i honestly couldn't say whether or not it effects weight because i developed hormone problems and began taking zoloft at the same time. so i gained a tremendous amount of weight at one time and i wouldn't have noticed a bit from the zoloft. but i'd be curious to know the answer.

When I took zoloft I actually lost a bit of weight. In fact the other day I was thinking about a time when I lost a significant amount of weight and I was trying to figure out the common denominator and I think it was the zoloft. obviously I am not sure but it does help with mood and stress. I might have to go back on it because of my TMJ problems but I don't want to bc I want to get preggo.. ughhh

There are indeed connections between many psychotrophics, and reported weight gain. But you have to remember that there are other factors involved...ie...people on psychotrophics have other issues than weight loss theyre dealing with.
I would say....hey, if you feel its impinging your diet, then talk to your doctor about trying a different med. But tbh..I think psychological health is a lil bit more important than losing some weight, and psychotrophics are pretty tricky...if one is working for you, dont stop it, dont change it...dont do ANYTHING! Its working... You can work around any possible conflicts it is having with your diet, with your physician (ie. dosage adjustments etc)....But thats just my opinion of course.

Also, you had a baby. That alone seems to be enough to forever change most women's bodies.

my doctor had me take zoloft through my two last pregnancies. he said the benefits outweighed any marginal risk.
