I bought a CVS brand heart rate monitor that included producing a total calories burned amount. I do zumba with 2 instructors one- I usually burn 800 calories and the second- closer to 900. I continuously update the settings on it when I lost weight to keep it as accurate as possible without having to use a chest strap. Well it messed up so I took it back and ordered a polor ft4 from amazon which does include a chest strap. Well after I got it set up and on I went to both zumba classes again and I was irate! it showed 606 the first class and 715 the second. OMG really!!!! Very frustrating that you believe an item is working properly when it really isn't.
Just watch out! Go with name brands that have chest straps!!!

yeah the ones with the chest strap are the most accurate, everything else is just a guess.0

even the ones with chest straps are just guessing for calories burned- heart rate is correlated with calories burned, weight and body composition, but its not perfect!
If you aren't losing like you expect, you might have to play with calorie goals or burned estimates until you are.0
