Awww thanks you guys - I'm loving all the suggestions from 'just get over it' to 'go ahead and treat yourself' lol! I'm thinking share a portion is a good option as I really can't be bothered to go to the shops right now! I have fish fingers and oven chips in the freezer but they seem to have almost as many calories as the take out version!

I have Haddock or Cod crumbed fillets every week (usually from Tesco, sometimes Waitrose) and have them with two potato croquettes, some peas/beans and a tbs of coleslaw. Usually comes in under 500kc

Oven chips haven't as many cals per 100g as you'd imagine.

But certainly share a portion... that's what I used to always do anyway, get a large cod and a child chips and that fed me and the hubster and we'd end up throwing about half the chips anyhow. It was usually the tub of coleslaw and/or mayo for the chips that was my biggest downfall.

Fish is amazingly good for you and forget what all the moaning minnies think about too much fat and salt. Have the fish fingers and a few oven chips and enjoy them, because you'll never get anywhere if you're miseable and craving to have something you think is out of reach.

Guilt is a negative emotion when trying to lose weight and one that's gonna eat YOU up.

BTW... if you like fish, then try some quick and easy fishy rice... about 200g of white or smoked fish, about 100g prawns, some oil or poach in milk, then add some boil-in the-bag or microwave rice, peas and/or beans/sweetcorn with some chives and dill... delicious and very low cal :flowerforyou:

Eat the fish, skip the chips. Or, if you have the calories, just eat it.

I AGREE!! We can't live the rest of our lives never having the old food we liked to eat. I still eat what I want, just in smaller portions. Like for lunch today I'm eating a big mac. That's a HUGE compromise for me because used to it was a big mac, large fries and a sweet tea...over 1200 calories. Now I'm down to the 500 calorie big mac.

I'm on the "go ahead and have it" bandwagon. As long as there's room in your calorie budget - why not? It's one meal a week and isn't going to totally destroy your efforts.

IMHO, it's good to have one meal like this a week. Not only does it keep you from feeling deprived but it can help you avoid other temptations throughout the week if you know it's coming. Hubby and I have either pizza and wings or chinese/thai take-out once per week and it's never held me back from weight loss. I make somewhat healthier choices and keep my portions normal but I'm still able to enjoy what I love!

And, like your fish and chips night, it gives me a night off from cooking. I think we all need this!

I really want to break this habbit of having fish and chips every friday! Hubby is always wanting take out especially when we're tired at the end of the week and I won't lie, I want it too lol! I can fit it under my calories but there's so much fat in them! Anyone got any easy, tasty alternative ideas?
Eat them and have a good time with your husband. Part of the reason people gain back a lot of weight is because when they crave something and it's denied, then when someone does break out, they go all out, feel bad and then dump their goals. Fat doesn't make you fat, overeating does.

    absolutely
