Jogging - mileage tracker

What is everyone using, if you are using one, to track your mileage / workouts when jogging or walking? I just went on google map, measured around the two parks I jog at and that was that and on one of them drove around and confirmed the mileage with my car..

But the other day I used my friend's app on her android phone and that thing was awesome... you could select a bunch of workouts; interval, 5k, walk, etc....i talks to you, and you could create your own workout...I forgot the name of it though, anyway... I was sold on it..... I was sold on it until a week later when I jogged just one more lap and it said I did almost 4 miles.. I was ecstatic. Then ten minutes later I was like, no way I could've run that much, so measured it again with my car, measured it with my friend's car after debating that the gps app was perfect since it was based on "gps" on her phone... BOTTOM line it was not accurate, it measured more distance than we were covering, so I returned to my primitive ways, lol

I'd love to use one of these apps for my workout. I also looked at the garmin "watches" that meaasure distance , heart rate, etc... but I don't think I am going to like those since the screen is small and hard to read for me when jogging and it won't talk to you..

What's everyone using to monitor / accompany your cardio, if you use such a tool?

Thanks

If you have a smart phone, you can download Runkeeper for free. I love it!

I use Noom/CardioTrainer on my Android. It can BT to a scale and a Polar heart rate monitor. Very good - and I am only using the free version. And I like the play list, the food tracking isn't as good as MFP, but that is what MFP is for!

The Polar HRM strap works with the Android, the Precor equipment at the gym, and a watch. The watch only units under $100 were not very good; I tried a few of them.

IPhone has map my walk app. It is also a website, but it has been accurate for me so far. It tells you average pace, fastest pace, how long in terms of time. It also has the website as mentioned above.

I use mapmyrun.com. You can either use the app that tracks you with GPS, or log onto your computer and actually trace the roads you ran on.
  • I use map my run (same as map my walk basically) on my phone. I like it a lot. Seems accurte, and consistent (i often run the same place) and it is accurate compared to measuring the old fashioned way. I also run with a club and many of the girls have the Garmins and I get the same results as they do.

I use Cardio Trainer app on my android phone. as for accuracy I think it's really good. I know it's not perfect. I recently did a 5K that is sanctioned by the USA Track and Field. meaning the course it was on it measured 5K/3.1 miles to the dot. When I ran the 5K with my app, measured it exactly. I have read and will agree that weather, trees, buildings, etc etc can throw off a gps on a cel phone.

I use All Sport GPS Pro on my Android phone. Got it free as the free app of the day on Amazon Appstore (which I highly recommend for Android users). It has been good and accurate. Keeps track of multiple exercises, not just running or walking specific.

Also considering an upgrade to a HRM I can tie in to my phone as well.

I just started using runkeeper, very nice app for free, gives you pace times and distances every 5 minutes, choose the playlists you want to listen to, I recommend it.
