P90X-Do you really need a pull up bar?

I just finished watching the infomercial on P90X. I'm really thinking of trying it in November. (Got workouts for October planned already.)

The infomercial says all you need is a set of dumbbells or resistance bands, and a pull up bar. Thing is, I don't trust my door jams to hold a pull up bar.

Do you really need the pull up bar?

you can modify pull up bar exercises with the resistance bands, they show you how in the videos.

I started out with resistance bands but after a week I had to go buy a pull up bar to feel like I was getting the most out of my workout.

At some point during the program you will need a pullup bar. With any of the exercises, modify if need to. With pullups, you will probably use a chair to assist you while you do pullups. Where you hang on to the pullup bar, but then have one foot on the chair and using your leg a bit to help you up and down. This will be a great way to test that door jam of yours too. The pullup bars today are designed to work with weak door jams, as it spreads the stress out across the entire upper door jam beam.

Cheers to you and personally have enjoyed the P90X program.
