Uhh yeah... I have been having trouble with flatulence since I started using Splenda. It is so embarrassing since it's the kind you can't hold in :blushing: Would it make any difference if I switch to Stevia?

That is interesting. I have used it for year's and haven't had that problem. But you may want to switch. I'm no doctor, but Splenda may have something in it that your body doesn't like. Have to be careful with those sub sugars. They all have a different make-up that does affect people differently. good luck. If you do change to Stevia let me know how that tastes. I haven't tried that one.0

When i did low carb and I started eating things with "fake, cal free sugar" I got gas really bad. I even got sick from it. It gave me gastritis and that hurts so bad! It can even kill you. I don't eat anything that gives me gas, I don't want to go through that again.0

Most artificial sugars could cause gas and bloating. Some of them even become ethyl alcohol at 98.6 degrees ( most body temps). Read all your food product containers and packaging carefully to make sure how many doses of these products you are actually ingesting over the course of a full day. They are embedded in everything! Granola bars, flavored waters, gum, cereal, diet pudding, certain brands of yogurt, light cool whip etc. You are sometimes actually better off just using regular sugar or honey but limiting how many times you use it in a day and how many grams of sugar you have in your plan. Aquave nectar and honey actually have a higher sweetness factor so you use 1/2 the amount for the same sweetness. I have converted many of my home made cookie recipes to using honey.0

I've never had that problem with Splenda. If what you're eating with splenda also has sugar alcohols in it, however, those DEFINATELY can cause gas and even diarrhea. Fiber one products are full of the stuff. It's tasty...but gassy.
Is it possible that as you have changed your diet, you've included more things with fiber? My father (haha, I typed "farter" first, lawl!) has problems with salads and things of that nature giving him terrible gas. He uses Beano religiously and swears by it.0 -
Splenda makes me very nauseus and tired...and come to think of it gassy. Since I stopped using it I can drink coffe again! lol0

Just wanted to add my personal experience here, in case it may help someone. Whenever I have Splenda (dextrose, maltodextrin, sucralose), I have horrible gas. Not just the kind you can't hold in, but the smell is so foul that even my husband can't stand it. And that's just if I have a couple packets in one day. If I have more, or if I have it for 2-3 days in a row, it only increases in quantity, volume, and becomes lethally noxious in smell. If I switch to Truvia (erythritol/stevia blend) the symptoms go away in about 24 hours. I haven't done the research yet, but I'm also lactose intolerant, and curious to see if there is some connection. Would be curious if anyone else has looked into this?0
