HRM vs the pool?

Hey MFP! I want to start swimming (a new lap pool is at my nearest gym), but I have no idea what to expect--I'm pretty comfortable in the water, but have never tried swimming for exercise. I bought a nice new TYR suit (which was amazingly on sale, since summer swimming season is ending), and I have some goggles that are not comfortable but I'm told I will get used to... I've got a New Balance N4 HRM that claims to be up to 50 meters water resistant (I've only used it for running and hiking type activities). Anyone have any insight on how it'll hold up?
And any other tips for a newbie swimmer?

I have the exact same HRM and I use it in the swimming pool 3 days per week. It is holding up just fine and seems to be quite accurate. Just don't push any of the buttons while under water . . I've heard that can ruin it.0
