    A general rule of thumb for wt. maintenance is 15 calories per lb. if you are inactive and 18 if you are VERY active. So, getting under 2000 calories should cause you to loose weight gradually. If you choose the right foods you will find you can eat a LOT at that level. I wouldn't go below 1500 calories. Trying to take off too much with diet reduces muscle tissue and tone and makes it more likely you will fall off your regimen. If you are starving you are more likely to cheat. Remember that if you are exercising, muscle weighs more than fat and looks better--measurements may be a better indication of where you are going than the scale.
