Totally Newbie Question?

I have read all the Newbies Read Me's and the Again & Again posts and I can't seem to figure something out;

According to the tools http://www.myfitnesspal.com/tools/bmr-calculator I have a BMR of 1685

MFP reccomends I eat 1200 cals - which I have done for the week (and eaten back exercise cals)

According to the widget at http://bwsimulator.niddk.nih.gov my baseline diet (which I think is my TDEE) is 2529

So this is my question; Am I eating too little?

For info I am 217lb and 5'3 - my BMI is 39.

    If your TDEE is 2529, that means that to lose two pounds a week, you should be eating about 1,529 calories a day, (before the exercise calories are taken into account)

    Not sure why MFP has you at the bare minmum... did you set your activity levels at the same for both sites, and fo you have MFP set at 2 lbs per week weight loss? As awesome a site as this is... the NIH site is definitely the one I would go with for specific info

    That widget over at http://bwsimulator.niddk.nih.gov is interesting. Thanks for pointing it out.
  • Hey rluca - I have my activity set at Sedentary on this site - the NIH site doesnt have matching level but its 1.4- which is as low as it goes. I have also gone for 2lbs per week on this site.

    No problems pope369 - its a pretty awesome widget..it was linked in this article: http://www.economist.com/node/21526789

    Thanks for reading guys - I don't know how I managed to lose the first 44lbs - took me 6 months back in 2006 and I don't remember a day of it!

    Tish,

    For sedentary, you multiply your BMR by 1.2 to get your TDEE, which for you would be 2022.. so for you you to lose 2 lbs a week would be a net calories of 1,022... which is too low, hence MFP having you at the minimum of 1,200. Sounds like a glitch on thew NIH site if 1.4 is the lowest they allow you to multiply by.
