So i drank some whey protein yesterday before i went to the gym to lift. First time i've taken it. I weighed in this morning 2 pounds heavier than yesterday. I didn't over eat or anything either.

So my question is, is that normal? What can I expect when taking it?

For the record, I'm going to stop weighing every day--i know i shouldnt do that, but i do. I'm gonna stop cause it just makes me upset on days like today...

**edit: i think my scale might be broken too so maybe its just that? or that and the protein? my scale says i've gained 5 pounds this week which is just not possible...you can read my diary as evidence.

2 lbs is a normal weight fluctuation from day to day. It's probably just a coincidence that you had the whey protein yesterday.

I can assure you drinking whey protein once will not cause 2lbs of muscle/fat gain. Drink a bunch of water today, as it it much more likely water retention is the culprit.

It is very likely water weight. I prefer the measuring tape over the scale.

Check the label of the protein for creatine. Creatine is supposed to cause water retention in the muscles to help them grow.

Try changing batteries in your scale. When the batteries are low, they tend to be inaccurate. I have experienced that with my scale.

Weighing once a week is a much better idea. It gives you a better picture of what you've actually lost since our weight fluctuates so much from day to day. I've been using whey protein powder for years and haven't noticed any problems. In fact, I think it's great because it sustains me longer than many other foods.
