Or even just someone who knows something about cooking????

I found a recipe I'd like to make and am VERY cooking challenged. It calls for tomato sauce. I have canned diced tomatoes and I have canned tomato paste. Can either of these become tomato sauce easily or do I need to make a run for a store?

Argh.

Thanks for any advice.

canned tomatoes w/a tablespoon of tomato paste, could make a nice little sauce. Simmer for 10 mins or so. Add onion, garlic, or seasoning as desired.
    but yes.. that would work.

What is the recipe for? I think you can probably used the canned diced tomatoes.

Boil the diced tomatos til they're fairly warm, then use a hand-blender to make it smooth..Add some oregano, basil, salt and pepper. Garlic or onion powder if you have it.

That'd be a pretty good base. Maybe a tablespoon of paste.

Some pizza places put cumin in their sauce, if you're feelin naughty.

I would put both the canned tomatoes (and all liquid from the can) and the tomato paste in a sauce pan together. You can add a little more water if it seems too thick. If you don't want the chunkiness of the tomatoes you can puree them in a blender or food processor until it's the consistency you want. Then add some sauteed onion and garlic, basil, oregano, rosemary, salt and pepper to taste.

Thanks for all the advice. Cooking is BEYOND me. I was thinking of just mixing the paste with water.....
