Hi all
I have a question,
MFP already advised me how many calories i should consume per day in order to lose 2 pounds a week, does it even matter if i do any type of cardio [zumba] ? i'm going to consume the calories i lost by working out because i don't want my body to get into starvation mode.
Finally the main question, Will it make a difference if I substitute any type of cardio to strength training [upper, lower, core] every week ?

Cardio has heart benefits aside from the calorie burn. That said, you can technically lose weight without exercising at all, so yes you can go without cardio. The new rules of lifting pretty much advocates using strength training mostly exclusively, with high intensity intervals for cardio, if anything. Personally, I need to eat much more than my goal to be satisfied, so I do steady state cardio mostly so that I can eat more.

Absolutely do that! Strength training burns more calories and also goes on burning them for longer than any CV you can do. When you put it in your diary on here put it under cardio circuit training which will get you near on your cals lost, they don't think it's hard work on here lol! It is much much better to lift weights to change your body, I can't even begin to tell you how much I support this! You only need to do 30 mins of cardio a day on top if you are wanting to drop body fat. I use this as a warm up post weights.

    Good Luck!!! :)

Both cardio and strength training should be used hand in hand as part of any exercise program. Cardio is incredibly important but the bonus with strength training is that you burn calories whilst you exercise *and* that bigger muscles burn more calories in their resting state. Good luck with everything :)
  • I started with a personal trainer about 2 months ago and have lost 14 pounds so far, he recommends apart from doing my usual aerobic exercise (ie. running) to do anaerobic training, this involves weight training, but you have to combine it with some form of cardio in order for your body to burn more fat and get more muscles. I usually do a lap running and then go and do free weights a set of 10, then run a bit again and do push ups or something like that. Exercises like mountain climbers, burpees, squad jumps etc are a good way of getting ur heart going and then go on and do your weight exercises. But remember, cardio is still important in your exercise plan, so defo do strength training but dont forget your running or zumba.

    Thanks all
What if I do cardios 3 times a week and strength 3 times a week with a free for myself [sunday], would it still help my body burn more fat and get more muscles? or do i actually have to do strength training the same day as cardio?
