Sorry if these questions have been asked but i did a quick search and lol there are lots and lots of posts about the 30 ds ,, way to many to sort through to find my specific answers soooo .....
I'm thinking about giving this ago, have mostly read and seen good things on here about it but i have a few questions
Is it something that a beginner can do? I have been excercising for the last 2 months but im hardly fit
I have heard some people see a gain in weight on the scales im sure this is probably due to muscle gain but at this point seeing a higher number would shatter me
Is it something that a person who is really large can do? i find it hard to co-ordinate being this big
Another major Question on my mind is calories, how many does it burn for one sesh? has anyone used their HRM and got the calories from it im using a polar watch id be particulary interested in hearing from people that are around my weight to get a accurate idea of how many cals it burns
also i was wondering wether people do it more than once like do you come back and do it again after a couple of months and is it still as effective
im quite sick at the moment so i havent started yet but looking for to a bit of a challenge thanks guys

I don't have any answers but would like to know what they are too !! I have just bought the 30DS (literally within the past half hour) and was going to start0

You weren't kidding when you said you had a load of questions!!
At the moment I weigh over 200lbs and I've been doing 30DS intermittantly - admittedly just level 1. When I first did it, I struggled to make it through to the end. But I'm managing it all the way through.
I would say give it a go and do what you can - it's 30mins max and if you don't try you don't know. Co-ordination gets better with practice - I also do Tae Kwon Do 3/4 times a week and can say that as a definitive personal experience. I can't comment on weigt gain specifically during 30DS, any weight I've gained, I know is through my poor diet choices.
As for calorie burn during 30DS - that's down to each individual - if you have a HRM use it. I burn 140 - 180 cals for level 1. The rest *shrug* As I said, i've been using it intermittantly and have only just started to use it more regularly. When I'm comfortable with level 1, I'll move on to level 2.
Hope that helps some :flowerforyou:0 -
I started it after just a few weeks of working out. I had better than a 100lbs to lose when I started. It was hard, but I kept pushing and took a day off when I needed it. They have alternate versions of most of the exercises that are easier if you need it. I didn't see any weight gain only loss. I would reccommend taking pics and measurements when you start as I only lost about 11lbs or so in it, but there were some MAJOR changes in my body that made me feel much better than the weight did. Just remember though the numbers on the scale are nice the journey is to get healthy, so watch your measurements and take pics along the journey when the scale isn't doing as much as you would like...it helps keep you going. Hope this helps0

I have done the 30DS, well part of it. Had to stop because my shoulder is giving me problems.
Anyway...
Yes, a beginner can do it. I started off "unfit" and practically died getting through the first few days, but your endurance builds up and you start to not feel so bad at the end.
You may find the scales go up due to like you said, muscle gain or water retention. Important to drink more as you sweat out quite a bit (I did anyway, felt like I was sweating out a river).
I started 30DS at around 205lb and didn't struggle too much. Some of the moves in level 2 are a bit of a pain in the backside but you get used to it as times goes by. You can modify the moves to suit you as well, and theres someone in the background who does modofied moves which you can follow.
I burnt around 350 cals for level 1 and around 400 for level 2. Never got to level 3 but this differs from person to person. Best to get an HRM to work it out for you accurately.
Can't answer the going back to it again question as I haven't even got through it once, but I imagine it's quite effective several times over.
Hope I've helped.0 -
I would say yes a beginner could do this dvd, there is a easier version of the moves, and a harder version, u choose who to follow
Some people do gain weight on the 1st week of doing it, and it can be disappointing to start with, but it normally goes within a few days. u just have to keep going for the full 30 days
Theres a lot of jump-jacks, and jump rope, long as u can do them, dont see y not, Jillian even says that she has 400lbs people doing them
It depends on the person, and who they are following, for the cals, most I've seen on here is between 150- 220 cals per level
I have done 2 rounds of 30 DS, and its always a good dvd to have if u need that little bit more0 -
Yes you can do it! I've attached a link to my beginner's running tips, which should answer some of your questions. I would bring to your attention the first two:
1. When you start out, it’s HARD! Even if you think you’re fit, running is so different to anything else you’ve done before you will get out of breath quickly. Stick with it. Can’t manage a minute? Go slow. Still can’t? GO SLOWER!
2. It gets easier. You’ll be amazed at the progress you make after the first week or two and soon won’t believe where you came from!

Good luck! When you're ready to start, be sure you check in and let us know how you get on!0 -
1) You will gain weight at first. This is your muscles retaining water to heal themselves. It is not fat obviously :-) Try measuring yourself instead of weighing if it bothers you. 30DS burns calories and and increases your metabolism so you will absolutely not gain real weight.
2) It is IMPOSSIBLE to build muscle on a calorie deficit (well, impossible for most humans). If you gain weight it is NOT muscle. This is a lie you will hear a lot on the forums. How can you build muscle on a calorie deficit with no food to build your muscles? They cannot build matter out of nowhere, they need excess calories. You can strengthen muscles but they will not weigh more.
3) As a beginner, the first few days will be TOUGH. That's the point though! Soon you will get used to it. Take breaks if you need to.
4) It burns 130-300 calories depending on your heart rate and size. I am close to my goal weight so I burn on the lower end. That is not bad for 20 minutes but it's less than hard cardio because it has strength training. Str training does not burn as many cals at first but building muscle boosts your BMR and makes you a healthier, more attractive person.0 -

I'm thinking about giving this ago, have mostly read and seen good things on here about it but i have a few questions
Is it something that a beginner can do? I have been excercising for the last 2 months but im hardly fit
A: I weight about 180 and started a week ago, I am moderately fit and found the first level intense but after four days I moved to level 2. I have been working out for years though and cycle a lot. Level 2 I am finding some of the moves very hard but I think I will be able to move to level 3 in a few days.
It is hard because these are moves you just never do in every day life.
I have heard some people see a gain in weight on the scales im sure this is probably due to muscle gain but at this point seeing a higher number would shatter me
A: I have gained about 2 pounds but my legs are already more toned and muscled and my arms definitely are. I don't mind putting on the weight because I feel so much fitter and my body is toning. This is more important to me than losing weight. Also my butt is defo smaller and my arms have a lot more definition.
Is it something that a person who is really large can do? i find it hard to co-ordinate being this big
I am the queen of no coordination but I just do it anyway. Define really large as well. I am very bottom heavy so I lose my balance a lot but you just pace it and re assert yourself. Just be careful. I am determined to do it so you just get through it. I tend to turn Jillian down and listen to music, it helps my balance for some reason.
Another major Question on my mind is calories, how many does it burn for one sesh? has anyone used their HRM and got the calories from it im using a polar watch id be particulary interested in hearing from people that are around my weight to get a accurate idea of how many cals it burns
A: I just put each session down as 200 as I have no HRM. Sorry, I am not sure for this one but there are a dew posts of people who mention what they bun so I guessed from that.
also i was wondering wether people do it more than once like do you come back and do it again after a couple of months and is it still as effective
A: I plan to keep this going three - four times a week once done. Probably either level 2 or 3.
I too am sick today so I will probably give today a miss.

Only 11! that is nearly a stone in weight. I would be amazed if I lost a stone doing this. Measurements are they key though, not weight.0 -
When I started--at 275lbs--all I could do to burn any major calories was swim. That takes about 450-500 cal an hr. I certainly couldn't walk far enough to do that. As for being out of shape. Start where ever you are and add a little more every week. You will be totally amazed at how your body adapts to exercise. It is like we crave it. I guess with 206 bones and over 600 muscles that is true on some level. I keep a written log just so I can be sure I add one more minute or one more rep or two more pounds to my exercise every week. Some weeks you will notice big leaps, at other times even adding that extra minute or two may be a struggle. That may seem tedious but it has taken me from being totally disabled in a wheelchair and unable to take a single step without holding onto the wall to walking 2.5 miles at 2.4 mph on the treadmill or 60 minutes on the stairmaster. My gym friend called me the "energizer bunny" since I just keep going and going. Good luck!0

i hadn't exercised for about 1 1/2 years and i picked this up and did it. you will probably be sore about teh first 4 days but after that it was smooth sailing for me. the exercises are difficult, this is true but the soreness went away. i went on to finish it and lost 9 lb doing so. i don't know how much you have to lose. i have about 20 to lose and it kicked about 1/2 of that weight off. pretty incredible.0
