I have tried a manual, but after purchasing the Gold's Gym Crosswalk 570 I'll never go back! I love love my treadmill, especially on those "too chilly to walk" days. It is bulky, but the fold up to store feature is great :)
I hope you find what works best for you!

I've never tried a manual one but I got my electric one from Argos about 3 years ago - it's a Roger Black and I think it cost about £200 in the sale. You can spend a small fortune on them but it depends what you want it to do - I would say go with one that you can raise the incline as you go rather than have to manually do it before you start.

check on the support on them too...we have one at our new fire station that looks like its built for a horse, and its support is horrible, not much cushion underneath..
  • Manual treadmills may be cheaper and smaller but they're also less sturdy. I don't like how you can't pre-select and once you set the incline level, you can't change it once you've started walking. I like electric treadmills better because you can adjust the incline with the push of a button and it moves the belt by itself. The manual ones require your own legs to move the belt which can be quite difficult to get it started moving. I've also heard stories that the manual ones can cause all sorts of joint problems because you're putting more pressure on your knees and ankles to make the belt move on your own. My personal opinion is that an electric treadmill is the safer way to go. You could also consider going to the gym, free use of treadmills, etc and you could probably get at least a year or more of a membership in what it would cost to buy your own treadmill. I think that's about all I can think of right now! Good luck!

another thing I dont like about some treadmills is the speed option...I like to go straight to my speed but alot of them stop at 2.5 then 4 something then 6 something...just let me go straight to my speed I'm doing this for time!
