Don't be afraid to try something.

I have well over 100 lbs still to lose, but I still signed up for this crazy thing. It took me an hour and 45 minutes, more than twice the time of my friends that went. But you know what? I did it. I was able to fully complete 9 of the 12 obstacles, attempted 2 others would get about halfway but couldn't quite complete, and had to skip one altogether. BUT, of the 9, I did some things I never thought I could do. And seriously, I'm pumped about trying it again in April 2012 in Dallas. If I stay on course with my workouts and everything else, it will be a whole different ball game the 2nd time.

Here is my blog from today:

And here is a video that someone posted on YouTube that shows the actual obstacles we went through.

I was scared I wouldn't be able to do even half of it. And I was worried it would take me so long that I would feel like a failure. But screw that...I got muddy, I have bruises and scratches and I got me a d*mn medal for crossing the finish line. So this is me saying that no matter your size or fitness level, JUST DO IT. Don't let your self doubt get in the way of trying something. I am so thrilled I didn't get in my own way and back out. And I can't wait until April to show myself how much better I can do!

Because a couple people asked me, this is my opinion on things to focus on if you want to do Warrior Dash. UPPER ARM STRENGTH! Seriously, cannot stress this enough. Especially triceps. You need to be able to pull yourself up and over things! Find a playground and climb on the toys, find someplace you can practice climbing ropes. And stamina...I walked 95% of it, but if you can get in some running you obviously will have a better finish time. Find some hills or stairs and practice going up! Not all the courses are the same, but they all have climbing obstacles and spurts of open running/walking. Before I do this again in April I am going to try the C25K again and at least build up some running endurance.

But mostly UPPER ARM STRENGTH TRAINING!
