The whole person, not just the weight

I have fluctuated in my weight most of my adult life. I have been a skinny, toned and shapely size 4 and an unhappy, overweight, and pregnant size 18. In my own personal journey I have become a strong believer in weight being a manifestation of deeper things. As I have looked at my reasons for losing and gaining over the years, there have been many and they have been complex. At times in my life it served me to be thin and at times it served me to be fat. Most people focus soley on the weight and only the weight and never gain the true goals they set because weight is only a symptom of deeper beliefs.

I love the small "challenges" and get started techniques, but I believe long term weight loss requires life changes, and not just eating patterns and fitness. I have removed 30 lbs of unwanted fat and kept it off for a year now and have actively engaged in personal growth and change over that time. Now, I wish to go deeper into my own growth and remove the remaining unwanted and unneeded fat and all the baggage that I carry with it.

I am seeking like minded friends who believe in the growth of the whole being and not just dieting and dropping pounds, but making life long changes and personal growth along the way. If this sounds like you, then friend me and mention this post and we will try to support each other on our personal journeys.

Thank you.

So true and yet rarely do we tackle those deeper issues!
  • Great post, I am just now learning about why I have the relationship I do with food. I've been reading "When food is Love" and I have learned so much about myself. I want to continue on my weight loss and self discovery journey as well.

  • I completely agree with you! Weight loss is a life style and change, not just a pound total lost number!

Thank you for the link. I read it and think there is some very good information in there. I too however feel there is more to it than biology, chemistry, and psychotherapy...all of which are valuable. I just know that the best way to know you are wrong is to be absolutely sure you are right! It is a complex issue for so many people that it will manifest itself differently for some, one of the things I didn't see mentioned in the article was social conditioning which is a big part of the reason we react the way we do. But overall, a good article. Thank you again for sharing.

It's been three days since I posted this topic and it has been so wonderful to see all the like minded people connect. The inspiration has been wonderful and the power behind people supporting each other is invigorating. Thanks.
