How do I creat a solid exercise routine?

I go to the gym 5 times a week, usually an hour each time. I don't do weight training yet, just machines.
What's a good way to start a routine for times and machines etc without a personal trainer?

    if you're just starting out it's hard to go wrong with an established routine like Ripptoe's Starting Strength or the New Rules of Lifting for Women

    activtrax.com I've used this since March and it gives me a workout to do every other day. So I do a day of strictly cardio then a day of activtrax.... I love it and I'm seeing muscles, definition and weight loss.
