How do you pick yourself up when......

You have had a bad week???? I've been on Prednisone for the last week, and I know alot of the 'gain' I've experienced is water weight. I'm 7 lbs more than I was last Wednesday. I started taking the prednisone on Thursday. Saturday, I had gained 10lbs, which is almost impossible!

So..... This got me a little depressed, and of course, I've been overeating a lot the last few days. I was only 7lbs over my current weight this morning when I weighed myself. (I need to stay away from the scale for a few days too I guess)

I've got to get back on track and stop binging like I did on icecream and pie last night. Ugh...........

Should I log the current weight? Or stay away from the scales for a few days/week and let the fluid get off of me?

I need some suggestions on how to pick myself back up.

I think some hardcore cardio will help this evening. I'm feeling much better than I was. Maybe that will help>??? Maybe I just needed to talk this out????

    Stay away from the scales.

Stay away from the ice cream and pie.

    Stay hydrated.

Keep eating healthy, exercising, logging your foods, and letting your body heal (for whatever reason you were on prednisone). When you're hungry, satisfy your cravings with healthy choices and stay full with bulky low calorie foods.

You'll get through this and back on track in no time!
  • I know how you are feeling! Binge eating has led me to gain a stone (14lb) since May, it got me down hugely for a while - therefore meaning I ate more because I was depressed about the weight I had gained (so stupid and doesn't even make sense!!). But I am happy to say I have got over the weight gain and realised that it is down to me and no one else to get it off again! I am only weighing once a week and I am aiming for 1lb a week and it is making me a lot happier taking it one step at a time. Hope this helps, you are the only one that can make it better so be positive and learn that fattening food isn't going to make you happy long term and therefore it is not worth the short term pleasure! I hope this helps a little :) go for a workout and be happy xxx

What will logging that change do for you? Will it motivate your or discourage you? If it is a motivation, log it. It doesn't necessarily reflect a physical gain in your body. Prednisone can do some aweful things to your body. It also makes me so hungry I can't stand it. Maybe until you are off the prednisone, you can go on maintenance to give yourself the extra calories and just stay away from the scale for a few days after you are done with it.
  • LOTS Of water and give yourself a week before you weigh in again!

Prednisone. I hate it. For all the reasons you just stated. Don't log, stop pigging out. As much as prednisone sucks, it's not an excuse. Exercise and wait till your off the prednisone to weigh again. Life throws us curves now and then and all we can do it stay focused and muddle through.

you were really banged up last week. i think that eating more is normal, b/c you do burn more cals when you're healing - BUT, keep them good cals not empty. if your body says it wants sweets, it's probably actually saying "i'm hurt and depressed and i want some happy brain drugs STAT" so have one peice of dark chocolate and that will be accomplished w/ few cals. also, steriods will tell you that you are hungry when you are not - so gum, celery, stuff you can "feed" the fake signal with. if your head is ok to get your HR back up there - DO IT.

lock the scale under the sink for a week. srsly, banish it. b/c right now it is lying.

There are three corners to our lives... physical, emotional, and mental.

Talking things out is very helpful. Feel free to do so that's what this site is for.

Now that that is out of the way it's time to pick it up physically. Food like that is my weakness. Probably the biggest weakness that I have. I remove it from my house. If its not there, I can't eat it when I feel down or rejected.

Next, step up and hold yourself accountable and get back on the track. We slip. We fall. We're human. Get back up. Know that you have the heart to do it.

    Best of luck to you.
  • Thanks y'all!!! I know the Prednisone is an excuse, and not a very good one. I'm getting back at it today.

Y'all really know how to pick someone up!!! Thank you so much to everyone of you!!!

My son had to take that medicine before a couple of times- each time he would put on some weight but it was just "water weight". After about 2 weeks once he was finished with that med he was back to normal. His face slimmed back down and his clothes fit better. So I would recommend you stay away from the scale for at least a week maybe even 2 after you are finished with that med. Drink lots of water and just keep eating the RIGHT food and work out as much as you can. It WILL level back off and the scale WILL get back to where it was! Hang in there and good luck and congrats on your loss to this point!
