Hi I'm Rachel, a 29 yo mother of 2. I started MFP over a year ago and got thrown off track almost immediatly,I believe because of the lack of support in my surroundings. I gained most of my weight when I was pregnant with my son but that was 7 years ago now, and I just became lazy. I am turning 30 in just about 7 months and I went to enter into that phase of my life looking and feeling the best I ever have. Any advice, encouragment and feedback is greatly appreciated on how to keep myself on track with the many temptations that surround us each day.

Wow. I could have wrote this myself. I say the same thing. I put most of my weight on with my first child, but that was also 7 years ago. LOL
I tell myself that time is gonna pass whether or not I decide to work on myself or not. I can either sit here in a year from now feeling better and looking better. Or I can be in the exact same spot. I choose the first and not the latter.
I am having a bit of a hard time lately myself with getting the motivation to workout. But it's true what they say. Motivation to change comes from with in. No one can do it for you.0 -
Hi, Rachel! What keeps me motivated is to set mini goals that are challenging but achievable and logging into MFP every day for support, advice, etc. I try to not look at "temptations" as an all or nothing deal so that I don't give up because I ate pizza. I just work out harder to earn the calories and try to eat clean the days following. Find friends on MFP that are positive and encouraging! That is helping me on days when I'm not feeling it. YOU CAN DO IT!0

Hi Rachel! I will send you a friend request. Life throws it's curveballs at you, and everyone has times when they put their health on the backburner. Here's my advice: log in everyday (even if it's just to log in and look around), exercise when you can (remember your vitamins so you don't get tired), and enjoy life! You have to do this for you, not anyone else. And it helps to have friends who can motivate you to stay on track. Join a challenge, I have one if you are interested. Do exercise you enjoy like walking. You have to enjoy your workouts otherwise you won't do them. Food temptations will always be around, if you really want something, have it in moderation. This helps from binging. Try to eat 6 times a day to also help from binging if this is your downfall. Every few weeks, go through your friendlist. If some people are not encouraging you or motivating you, you have to delete them and make more room for people that will. It's just as nice to recieve encouragement as giving it.0

Adherence to exercise is always a challenge. As Amanda said, it has to come from within (intrinsic)... however, it can also come from an extrinsic factor (meaning an outside source). Mine was the day that my endocrinologist diagnosed me with type 2 diabetes. On the way home from my appointment, I pulled into a fitness center, joined, hired a personal trainer and started working out that very afternoon. That was in March of 2010 and I've worked out 6 days a week ever since and have lost 70+ lbs. I am now a personal trainer and help others achieve their fitness goals. I can tell you that if you can stick with a program (and I recommend a group fitness or boot camp program where you'll be working out with others like yourself) for more than a couple of weeks, you'll actually become "addicted" to exercise. I experienced it and see and hear it all of the time from my clients. Your body and mind will actually crave working out. Yes, the first couple of weeks suck because it's uncomfortable; nobody likes to breathe hard, feel like puking or have sore muscles. But, you've been hard on your body by not exercising and not eating right for awhile and it takes time, effort and commitment to succeed. But... you can do it. Remember... its not a quick fix - it's a lifestyle change! Good luck!!!0 -

I'm 21 years old and I've always struggled with trying to keep my weight down. I find it extremely hard now to keep the weight down now. Not only do I work at a restaurant but I also don't get off until late at night and I get hungry. There is temptations that I face everyday. If it's not food surrounding me 24/7 it's definitely laziness I sometimes have. I've been dieting for over a month now and I lost my first 10 pounds. To me, I don't see results but inside I feel better and better for every pound I lose. Recently my mom went through some old pictures and sent me a picture when my body looked it's best. When I want to eat that delicious cheeseburger or have some french fries, I look at that picture on my phone and it pushes me to not give up. That has helped out a lot. Also to, I kept one of my favorite jeans that I can no longer fit in now, and that for sure has helped me to keep pushing myself. Hopefully this helps!!0 -
Welcome! Like you, I gained a good bit of my weight from my first pregnancy, and mine was almost 10 years ago! Over the years my weight has fluctuated, and I had at one point gotten to within 10 pounds of my pre-baby weight, then I went and got pregnant again... and after that, pregnant again with twins! Two years after the twins, I haven't lost any of that weight, and I have finally just gotten sick of being fat. I think I lacked the internal motivation to do it, and recently I have found this insatiable urge to better myself and get healthy again.
