Elliptical Calories

Does anyone know why the calories burned on my elliptical says alot less than the calories it says on here I should have burned. I know that I don't have it on a very high setting yet, and so I assume that is probably why.
I am also wondering this: do you think it is better to do a lower setting longer, or to do a higher one for a shorter amount of time?

Because it takes an average persons weight. Unless you use an HRM, your numbers are always going to be too high.
As far how long, it depends. It's best just to mix it up and what you are comfortable with.0 -
I think it is best to get a HRM with a chest strap ecause both the machines and MFP are known for being inaccurate. You can get on for around $50 at Wal-Mart. I goot mine about a month ago and LOVE it. The machine and MFP aren't even close to my tru calorie burn.
Try doing speed spurts. I have a base speed that I do not allow myself to go under and I will do spurts for 20-30 seconds (or to a certain distance) where I really challenge myself. It gets your heart rate up which drives the calorie-burned equation.0 -
Because the MFP numbers are really high for calories burned!
Both of the 2 workout options you mentioned are good. Why not try mixing it up depending on your mood?0 -

Curious to know....what is your true calorie burn on the HRM vs. the machine itself and by MFP? Does the HRM show more calories burned or less.
It see,ms that no matter what speed I go or what level I set the elyptical at I always burn about 10 calories per minute.0 -
Tkhk0514,
My calorie burn for the elliptical is usually higher than MFP, but my stationary bike is waaaaay lower than MFP.0 -
Oh...I know exactly what you mean!
My machine will say 802 calories and I minus 30%...A MFP buddy let me in on this when I wasn't losing weight anymore....
DAMN YOU NORDICTRACK!!!
