Anyone in the UK doing the High Peak Winter trail challenge?

I will be doing this with my 12 year old son and 11 year old Nephew. Its a walk of 17 miles in the peak district. Just wondered how people prepare for walks like this? It is for the British Heart Foundation :-)
Any advice on training would be greatly received as I am a runner but have the kids to stop me doing that :-)
