hey all..

I am having one of those days where I feel like I am just destined to be a big girl.
I lost weight but I cant seem to lose more..and if I do then it comes back. I watch what I eat, work out.
Eat enough and through-out the day so I dont go in "starvation mode". It sucks to work so hard and not see it on the
scale. I dont feel this as a plateau just like my body telling me to **** off. I weigh myself everyday. I cant stop and it's always on my mind. argggh....I just want to lose the weight.
2 years ago I didnt watch what I ate at all and I lost 40lbs by going to the gym a lot. Now I am giving it my all and feel shafted.
Any words of encouragement or similar feelings?

Just don't give up. EVER. Keep doing what you know is right. Work hard. Stay focused and motivated. Don't weigh every day. It may take up to a year, but it will come off if you do the right thing.
  • One observation is that you said you lost 40lbs before. I don't know if you've gained them back but it's harder to lose the second or third (fourth or fifth) time around because when you gain weight you gain fat cells but when you lose weight you NEVER lose fat cells, they just shrink! It probably doesn't mean that you have to work out like crazy just give your body some time. :D

it's going to be okay! I weigh every other day and test bodyfat at the same time. Ive fluttered with one pound and one percent for a month, i feel your pain. Now, to keep me from bashing my head into a wall 4 days a week, i set non scale goals, literally as simple as 500 more pedometer steps on a dog walk daily or lifting 5 more pounds weekly. Today is my deadlift day and i went up 5 lbs to 125. It was easy. In one week i went up 10 lbs on my deadlift, and you guessed it, the scale didnt budge. But im in bed and am darn happy with myself. There will be months like this where we have no pounds to speak of, but if you quit now it could turn into years. Keep your head up hun, it will get better.

Heyy.. i have definitely felt like this before. First of all i think one of the best things you can do is go over your goals. Rereading them or thinking of more reasons why you want the weight off is always motivational. Another thing you could do that might help too is not put so much emphasis on scale weight. I know that's difficult (i usually habitually wake up and weigh myself ) but scales don't tell the whole story. Your body composition could be improving (losing fat/gaining lean muscle mass) and you don't even know it because the scale weight is staying the same. but what everyone really wants that is trying to lose weight is a lower body fat %.

seems like you been doing really good so far just stick to the gym and your caloric guidelines you will be ok ! good luck :)

  • I hear you amy. I've been working so hard, and recently have been totally stuck. Upped my calories, since I was netting like 600. Lost a little, then nothing and now I'm teetering on going up again. I'm an obsessive weigher and it is just getting me more depressed and frustrated. I'm taking a couple days off the gym and see if that helps a little, and I'm really trying to stay off the scale.

i'm stuck too. i lost 17kg (38 pounds) since new year, and have about 8kg (20 pounds) more to lose.

i've been stuck here for 3 months now. i won't give in, i'll just stick it out and keep on exercising, try to eat well and hope that motivation comes. i know my problem is food, i'm eating just on the brink, not too much that i'll put weight on, but not little enough to lose. so i will just keep on exercising until the weather heats up and hopefully i will be inspired to cut my calories down by a few hundred a day at some stage soon.

every week my weight is fluctuating from 77-78kg and back again, i just can't seem to break this plateau.... Damn, why do i have to love food so much.

Amy! I love you girl but I want to kick your butt right now! You are doing so amazing hunnie. You have lost 16 pounds in what, one month?! That is amazing! I know you told me you have more energy and feel better and feeling healthy is really the point of all of this...the weight will come off, I promise! It took me almost an entire year to lose 35lbs. It can be fustrating but finally being able to wear a bikini in public and feel sexy is worth it!

Also, It's been four years since I lost the weight and started eating right and exercising, and I can tell you that now it is really hard for me to gain weight, which makes sticking with this even more worth while! When we went on our cruise in December I was consuming about 5000 calories a day for a week.... I only put on two pounds and they came off within days of coming home.

I love you and I know you can do this!!!!! *hugs*
  • Firstly youve already done an amazing job and should be really proud of yourself you're body has 'given up' a lot of excess weight already and is probably just 'taking a breather' to realise that everything is fine its not under attack and it will then give up some more if you stick with it. I generally find in the past this is the time ive lost the most inches as everything that has comeoff in different places re-jigs itself and you get smaller all over. Going back over your goals and how far youve come is great advice too :)
