Hello All,

I am a 30 year old who has been over weight all her life. I ahve ried numerous times to lose weight. i had some success when i was on weight watchers a couple of years ago. but i quit when i hit a plateau, and haven' gone back since. i have kept off 30 of the 49.8 pounds i had lost.

i am wanting to do this again not weight watchers but lose the weight. i need to lose 140-145 depending on the goal i want to hit.
I am having trouble getting moving this time. i am working midnights now and i have been for the last 3.5 years. i just have problem time adjusting with this schedule i am on. tracking food and exercising is difficult for me with this schedule.

would love some support and ideas from you all, and i would love to help you on your journey as well.

what do you do for work? Overnights can be quite challenging.
  • I work the same shift! I know firsthand that it is very hard so I hear your struggle loud and clear! I recently posted a question about when I should eat and got some great feedback. Go to my profile info and check my recent posts. Hope this helps.
  • I'm a nurse and I just switched from day shift to night shift (7pm-7am). I've found that if I plan my day, I can stay on track.

When I get off work, I try to hit the gym on my way home. Then I'll take a shower and go to bed. If I don't have to work again that night (I work 3 nights a week), then I'll sleep for 4-5 hours and stay up till my husband goes to bed around 10pm or 11pm. If I have to work again, I sleep as much as I can until I have to get up to get ready.

As for eating, I try to keep it simple. My goal is always to not eat between midnight and 7am. I usually eat breakfast in the morning when I get home from work, before I sleep. For example:

Got off work, got home at 8am, ate oatmeal, went to sleep till 1pm, got up and ate lunch, at dinner with the family, went to bed with hubby...or...
Woke up at 8am, ate normally all day, napped 2-3 hours in the afternoon, went to work, didn't eat after midnight.

I try to keep my eating as if I was sleeping from 12-7am every day. Since I bounce back and forth from night shift, to being awake with my kids on my days off, it gets a little crazy.

Hey I'm back to nights as well. 1800-0700. My situation is a bit different I think- nearly everything is closed by 1800, and there's really no time to get food past about 2200 anyway-so I end up not eating that much-at least so far.

Yup, I work third shifts too, mainly on the weekends and I'm all out of sorts...I find that I don't want a big meal during the third shift because my body just doesn't feel right, so I'm gonna watch this thread and see what others do too :) I do bring lots of healthy snacks to work though, working "non-normal" hours is rough on your body and I know that I just feel off-kilter.

    brittmiles07 ,

interesting. i should try it your way not eating during my shift except for a snack. i work from midnight to 0730 monday through friday and i do bounce myself back around to a "nornmal" schedule when i am off.
i don't like to eat a heavy meal while i am working either it seems to make me more tired and it just doesn't sit right.
  • Hi there. I work overnights too. I work 1-10hr shift and 2-15hr shifts.I always end up eating around 1am and dont eat again until dinner time the next day on the days I work. I need to figure out something too.
