my arches have been bothering me off and on for a couple weeks/months. i go and get a massage every 3 weeks and that seems to help. (it is NOT planter fasciitis.) yesterday, i went and got a deep tissue therapy massage on my legs, mostly thighs and calves, but some light work on my feet and lower back. now my left arch is killing me. the pain is so bad, it throbs; i am limping and can't put pressure on the bottom of my foot. i was supposed to do a 3 mile run today and a 5 mile run tomorrow to prepare for my half-marathon in a week, but i am skipping them. any suggestions to help the pain so i can run by next tuesday?

  • I have fallen arches and the bottom of my feet hurt when its time to get new sneakers. Asics Gel has a good running shoe, great for arch support. Its time for me to buy some new ones. I have over 300 miles on mine now and my feet hurt. Look into getting fitted for some good sneakers

With deep tissue massages, it's super important to make sure you stay extremely hydrated, otherwise you can get unexpected pains like what you're describing. Drink lots of water!!

I used to have this problem alot and I spoke to a friend of mine who is a Podiatrist. He took one look and my shoes and told me bluntly they suck. You probably need a shoe with a higher arch to support your foot. The day I went and bought my new sneckers my feet stopped hurting. If this doesnt work you might want to see a podiatrist and find out is you arches have fallen

i don't need new shoes. my most recent pair has 182 miles on them and the other has 237. i was fitted for both at a running store.

Did you drink lots of water after your deep tissue massage? You can get pretty sore from all the lactic acid they push out of your muscles during a hard massage, and if you noticed the pain got worse within a day or so after the massage, it's likely that's the cause. I'm not sure why, but most of the time a masseuse/massage therapist doesn't tell you to make sure you're super hydrated before and after a deep tissue massage.
