Has anyone read and variations of thes books are they helpful or full of common sense bunk? Right now I'm looking for ways to maintain my weight loss + lose more. My goal is 175lbs (I'm 5'8 5yrs old) right now I'm 256 down from 292 5/27/2011 with goal of 230 or less by 01/13/2012 my birthday. I currently work out 4-5 times a week and burn 300-600 doing cardio equipment. I want the weight to drop faster any tips? Will these books help? :drinker:

Also I am a diabetic so all tips that don't screw with that will be great.
Thanks Loves in Advance :flowerforyou:

Do you want to just lose weight, and get healthier?

Or do you want to lose weight and get healthy?

The first is easier and more fun, the second is harder but if you can do ultimately more rewarding.

I have a few of the books and think it was a big waste of money. Others love them though. I think it is just a matter of what fits the needs of each individual person. Maybe check the library first?

Some of the stuff in the books is helpful, but most of it seems like commen sense you could know just by reading nutrition labels. You should see if your local library or any family/ friends have the books you can borrow so you can read them without having to buy :)

I own two of them, but to be honest I never actually use them. I did the whole read through it and ooh and ahhh when I first got them, then they went on the bookshelf never to be looked at again.

The guy bothers me. The books are just a guide if you plan to eat out somewhere, it gives you a "better" choice. But like others have said, it's mainly common sense and you shouldn't eat out a lot anyways if youre trying to lose or maintain weight.
  • I love to browse through diet books and i must have done about 200 till now. This eat ths not that 2012 concentrates more on restaurant food there is black covered book from this series which has more specific sections like breakfast lunch dinner which to me seemed better. Really of all the weightloss books I got a tip here about a book called secrets of the former fat girl which seems more doable. Go to barnes and noble on your holiday check out the books. This book above which I stated seemed to be the only one which has been helping me slowly.

Ditto. Check them out from a library if you can.

I have one of the "Cook This Not That" cookbooks. I use it pretty frequently. It gives lower calorie versions of restaurant foods.

I have the Restaurant Survival Guide, Supermarket Survival Guide and the Eat This Not That 2011 book. I will admit that before going out to eat, I use the restaurant guide. I don't always order what is suggested, but I find it to be a good helper for making better choices. There are definitely a few things in there that really shocked me as far as what foods are good and bad. When I first got the supermarket book, I took it with me to the grocery store. I used it for almost every food I put in my basket. I felt really good when I got home and unpacked my groceries. I haven't brought it with me again because I feel like now I know by memory what choices are the best. I keep the books in my car. I would actually recommend buying the Eat This Not That 2011 which has a section for best restaurant picks, best grocery picks and best fast food picks all rolled into one book. It's only $8 with free shipping on Amazon, so if you don't like it, at least you did spend a lot of money. Good luck!

The Beck Diet Solution is what changed my life, it is a 6 week program that teaches you HOW to eat better and stick to a diet, dealing with sabotaging thoughts I lost 50 lbs 4 years ago and over the next year another 10 without working at it, just simply because that's how much my lifestyle had changed. Now I"m on MFP to tone up and get more into fitness, but that book is the ticket! If you want more info send me a message and I'll tell you how it works but look into it you won't regret it!!!!

  • i have just the "Cook This, Not That" and the "Supermarket" one. those were the only two i found helpful, because the others (to me, anyway) were just common sense.

there are a lot of awesome recipes in "Cook This" that turned out really well- so if you get that one, don't be afraid to try any that sound good to you. they've yet to disappoint me!
