BAD Day! Weight up (maybe Fluid) Sugar is up because of Late Night Low and I had to feed it. Endo per Secretary can't see me till November. I was hoping to cross another zero off my scale, was not expecting it to go up.:noway:

I am an Insulin Resistant Diabetic on U500 insulin, which is 5x as strong as regular insulin, Dr retired (probably because his group went digital) and I have tried on several occasions to be seen ASAP. I have be having success in the last 2 weeks with MFP and need help adjusting my insulin. I keep going LOW. I have gone down from 56 units a day to 33 units and I can find my correct dose.

I am so Disappointed & Depressed about today's numbers, it is a struggle to keep to the program and ignore the temptations. I actually had a cookie, I am stuffed but yet I feel like I'm starving!

Your best bet is to make sure the choices are healthy and enough to keep your sugar up. Have you tried 6 small meals a day?

I guess I could make the 3 main meals smaller and increase the snacks. Its just frustrating that, given the type of Insulin and the fact that I am losing weight and changing to a better life style the Advice of my Endo is URGENT right now. I go 45-60, 3 or more times a week. It's scary for me, when my lows used to be in the 100's

It sounds like such a frustrating day for you! I'm sure you will get where you need to be, but diabetes is really tough. I don't have it personally, but it runs in the family.

Isn't it a good thing if you have to keep adjusting your insulin doses down, though? That would mean your sugars are more under control and you need less insulin to control them. It sounds like you are doing all the right things! One set of lab values isn't the end of the world. You will come back even better next time. Don't let one bad day get you down! And if you need to, find a new endo!
  • I am Insulin Resistant as well, but I am not on medication. My doctor and nutritionist told me to keep everything in balance so that I don't have high spikes in my sugar is to balance 15 grams of protein with 30 grams of carb. I would also see if you can talk to your doctor's nurse on the phone and explain what is happening that way she can consult with the doctor without having to get an appointment. Chances are if the nurse calls you back and you explain the doctor will "fit you in". Trying to do your own dosing is really hard.

I know dealing with Diabetes can be extremely frustrating sometimes. Especially when you have a sweet tooth and love food like I do. Do the best you can to focus on the positive things. Your numbers can't be perfect every day. I know it sounds silly, but try not to stress out. Stress won't help your numbers go down. If you haven't seen it, try looking up dlife.com. It's a great website for those with Diabetes and has a ton of great recipes. Have you thought about trying to find a different Endo? Maybe it's worth looking in another city if it means you can see one sooner and get the answers you need.
  • 45 is way beyond Hypoglycemic and you can actually pass out from that low of a blood sugar. You got to get that checked pronto

I am type 2 (insulin resistant) prediabetic. I am trying to head off this disease early with nutrition, exercise, and some blood glucose monitoring.

To keep my blood glucose steady, here's what I've found works for me. Five meals a day, evenly spaced, including one right before bed to keep that glucose stable overnight. I avoid refined sugar, refined (white) flour, and HFCS as much as possible, typically <5g per meal. Every meal has a good source of either whole grains or protein. Whole grain foods and protein foods (which are convert to glucose by the liver) digest slowly, preventing blood sugar drops.

As you lose fat and get healthier it is expected for you to need less insulin. As you said, you really need to get to a doctor about it. Try as hard as you can.

I agree 45 is extremely low. I would take a second reading if I saw that. And make sure you mention that when you call the Dr.'s office.

In regards to your stuffed yet starving comment: That means you're probably eating emotionally. It could be because you're happy, sad, bored, or trying to fill an empty feeling with food. That's something you'll have to deal with if you want to lose weight and keep it off.

I won't comment on the insulin parts because I have no experience there. =)

if you open your food diary we can help you better, if you need to eat more that is fine, just get more exercise in

I think it's more related to diabetes. Hunger is commonly a symptom of low blood glucose in diabetics.

    UPDATE!

I was finally able to get some help with my U500 Insulin!

Because I was eating better and exercising my need for insulin decreased, causing my blood sugars to drop dangerously low. Thanks to the Diabetic Nurse @ the weight loss study that I am participating in, she spoke with her colleagues and they suggested a dosage that I can adjust as needed. It is working and I can now concentrate on my weight loss goal instead of sabotaging myself by feeding low blood sugars.

And I am looking for a new Endocrinologist!

Thank you all for your Suggestions & Concern:flowerforyou:
