Starting Juice Diet Today

So my trainer recommended juicing, so as soon as I get home from work, I'm going to start juicing. Basically, it's short-term cleanse, where you get micronutrients and whatnot, since you're literally just taking out the pulp and getting the juice from fruit and (mainly) vegetables. Have you tried this? Any recommendations? He's also got me on lean protein so I can keep working out...and so I don't lose my mind by not chewing. Oye.
Thoughts? I could definitely use some motivation!!

So will you be consuming nothing other than juice and lean protein (and water)? What sort of lean protein?0
-
I have been drinking fresh squeezed juice during the day and eating higher protein, normal meals at night. Stay close to the bathroom the first few days. I feel a lot better and I think this fits my normal eating cycle better than several small meals a day.
For the record here - I am still making sure that I reach my caloric goals, and have been successful all but yesterday. I am still losing weight at 1-2 pounds a week.0 -
Personally, I would find another trainer.0

Your trainer actually recommended this? In my International Sports Science Association (ISSA) training they talk about all kinds of fad diets like this. Basically, avoid at all cost. What's your trainer certified in?0

Wow. Have fun! :flowerforyou:0

Are you sure that's the kind of "juicing" he was referring to?0

I agree with the others who said to question what your trainer is doing. I've lost 8 pounds of MFP -- which isn't a lot, but I don't have a lot to lose. That said, I have health issues which make losing weight a very slow battle. I consumed 1200 calories a day, and exercised for 45-60 minutes of cardio. What I LOVE about MFP is that there is no fad diet here -- just exercise more, and eat less - and the pounds will come off. Some weeks less than others, and some people at a slower rate. Be patient, MFP does work if you put the effort in. BTW...I would never even consider drinking juice. All those calories and no fiber? Nothing to fill you up? Eat lots of celery/cucumbers/vegetables instead to supplement your regular low calorie diet (with plenty of protein!).0

What exactly is the point? Why not just eat real fruits and veggies and lean protein?0
-
I'm absolutely eating 1200 calories a day--It's just as a supplement to my diet and as a way to introduce more variety without over-filling. You still get fiber from the juice (it's pulpy), which is a good thing, but think about it as an organic v8 with no preservatives. That's my impression at least! It's also cutting out artificial sugar, which is a big thing. I know they had that movie fat, sick, and nearly dead, which was the basis for all this...but this is an amendment to that plan (you don't eat ANYTHING solid in that one...i can't imagine!). I don't consider this a fad, as much as changing the way you perceive food...like a smoothie, ya know?
Any recommendations and (supported if not supportive) medical responses?0 -
So what benefits are you looking to get out of this diet? Is it just a weight loss thing?0

Kimora Simmons did this on her show last night. I'm curious about it. Keep us updated.0

Hi wow good luck! Its definitely good for you but you are gonna need to probably chew yes lol Id go nutso. but I love my montel williams juicer thing I have and have done juicing but not for every single meal. what happens depending on the person is is that you go crazy with eating when you are burned out and starving. Unless you are super super human and are used to it it could be difficult and I would recommend by starting to juice a meal or 2 or meal and snack so you wont go into starvation mode. It ll definitely make you lose. My gf is doing right now and she is losing a lb a day basically but now starving she is like WHERES THE FOOD
good luck and keep us posted!!! You can do it .....just do it in a smart way ya know0 -

As a PT myself, I've seen this thousands of times. Short term weight loss, then short term weight regain. If you ain't gonna live your life this way, then there's no reason to do it, IMO.0 -

I've been training with my trainer for about a year and I'm down from 200--so it's not a sales tactic since I'm already hooked! I'm looking for all-around health improvement, specifically with regard the way I consume sugar. (Salt? Psh, who needs the stuff...now sugar is a different deal for me!) I just get really full with not a lot of food, and I'm a stress eater, so I think this could be a great way to restart the way my mind/body looks at and responds to food. I'll keep your advice in mind, however, and keep you guys posted!0

Fructose may be better than refined carbs, but that's not enough reason to overload yourself with it.0

Juicing is pretty great, I did just a juice fast for two weeks with supplements and felt fine during and after. I did it to help reduce the inflammation in my digestive system, which then helps reduce my arthritis symptoms. It's kind a of pain unless you have a really good juicer tho. We did a lot of kale, spinach, beet, apple, celery and carrot blends, garlic too...just not in the a.m one. ick.
Sometime I would go to a sejuice and get one of their blends....carrot, celery, spinach and apple is a good starter one, actually tastes good. It's just a bit easier for your digestive system to recover the nutrients this way, your body doesn't have to break down anything which is a nice break. I worked with a few holistic trainers who have done really well training themselves and clients for competitions using juicing and lean proteins...mostly sunwarrior protein shakes and not meat though. Good luck:)
I still make myself vegetable juices, especially if I'm feeling run down...0
