I wish there was a column that showed my running sugar total for the day as I added my foods. Cause I love fruit and fruit juices, and I had no idea there were so much sugar in them! Today for instance, I have had 2 servings of grapes, an orange and a banana - 73 grams of sugar!!!!! What am I suppose to do? Fruit is supposed to be good for you isn't it????

There is a column that can show your sugar intake, you just have to adjust your list under your tools section. It gives you the option of what you can see for intake in your daily allowance.

I don't worry a lot if it is natural sugar that is automatically in foods. If it is processed sugar that is where I get concerned.

Simply add sugar as one of your tracked "nutrients" here:

  • There is a way to add sugar to your counter. Go to the settings under your food tab. Then add sugar.

Strongly agree with this. Unless your doctor is telling you to avoid fruit b/c of the sugar content, the last thing you should be doing is avoiding fruit. I don't agree with WW's approach of "fruit is free", but you should eat several fruits each day. Just count the calories, and it will all work out.
  • Certain fruits have a lower sugar content than others and those ones you can eat more freely. I believe fruits like canteloupes and honeydew melon are lower sugar than strawberries etc... but don't quote me. But yup, fruits are something you can just inhale in huge amounts like veggies. The eternal "if it tastes good it must be bad for you". And fruit juice is loaded with sugar - beyond just the fruit that's in it. Switch to the real fruit or if you must, cut the juice with water or other non-calorie drinks.

Fruit is good for you and your body does process fruit sugar the same as it does some other sugars. Fruit juice is not so good. If it's fresh juice it will have nutrients but not the fiber of whole fruit. Skip or limit juice, but eat the fruit.

Fruit sugar (fructose) is better for you than table sugar.

By eating table sugar (sucrose) our bodies go out of sync with our sugar levels as the sugar is processed in the body extremely fast and in doing this the body informs the pancreas to pump out insulin. Someone with a weak pancreas will have a hard time doing this.

Fructose on the other hand is broken down more slowly which allows the body more time to react to the sweetener that has been consumed. This puts less stress on the body and also the pancreas which is good for diabetics as they don't have to worry about sudden sugar spikes.

I would be more concerned about sugars in fruit juices though.
