Help! My treadmill is dying!

Well I have a nice treadmill I bought back in 06 and it has been sitting dormant for about 3 years until I dusted it off and started using it Monday. I walked 30 minutes Monday and Tuesday with no problem. Today 20 minutes into my walking it just stopped. The belt stopped not the electronic panel which was still showing the stats. If I stopped it and hit start it would start to move again but after about 20 seconds it would die again. Does anyone know what's wrong and what I can do to fix this?? I have to have this treadmill it's my only way to work out for now. Thanks!

You probably just need to lubricate the belt. I had a similar problem and bought LifeSpan Fitness 100% Silicone Treadmill Belt Lubricant (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FH10F2) and the treadmill started working again.0

I was going to suggest that too!0 -
So that is an easy thing to do as in my husband could do it? lol Do they sell this kind of oil at places like Walmart or Lowe's? I don't want to wait for delivery times if possible. Thanks so much! If anyone knows how to do it please let me know. I can let you know they type of treadmill and all that if you need to know. Thanks!0

I don't mean to be a Debbie Downer but the same thing happened to mine and my motor was burned up. I hope and pray that yours is the easy fix of lubricating the belt. Mine came with lubrication (graphite based if memory serves me right) and we did put some on it but when he took the motor off and tested with his little tester it was fried. So I am now the owner of an awesome elliptical machine. Love it.0

Yes that is my biggest fear. The fact it will start again when I hit the start button I hope is a good sign. I can't afford an elliptical right now but I would love to have one. If I have to depend on going to the gym I am afraid I won't go due to sharing a car with my husband. I didn't smell anything burning up just started then stopped after a few seconds. I am praying this is not a big deal.0

Hi Kel. Finally got to a computer so I can answer now. The oiling and motor burnout the other posters suggested are both possible, but there's no way of really telling unless you get to the innards, sorry! If your husband is good with cars/bikes etc, he should be able to find out what the problem is. If I lived in California I'd have a look, but sadly I don't.0

Thanks Russell and everyone for responding. Well he turned it on and the belt starting moving even up to a super high speed then he just placed his foot on the outer edge.. not on the belt just the outer edge and it would stop. Does anyone know what this means? He flipped it took three screws out then stopped saying he didn't have time yet he is out at some friends house watching sports now.. I can't get him to help me fix it. Here we go with husband sabotaging my weight loss again. Ugh! If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. I don't want to stop all my good progress.0
