Fat, Protein, and Carbs

I recently read a post about people who are unable to meet the caloric standard of their goal IOT lose weight and questioned why the carbohydrate intake was so high versus the protein intake. According to some other research I've done, here's what I believe the possible answer might be:
"It depends on your age, your size, and your gender. The USDA suggests that 50% of your calories come from carbohydrates, about 30-35% from fat, and about 15-20% from protein. For a 2000 calorie per day diet, that equals 250 grams carbohydrates, 67 grams fat and 75 grams protein per day." http://nutrition.about.com/od/askyournutritionist/f/fat_protein.htm
Any input would be greatly appreciated. I'm lost with trying to figure out what exactly I should be eating. I don't think I have enough time in a day to figure out exactly what I need to consume IOT maintain the goals set forth within the program. I'm lost with the whole carb, fat, protein talk. I know what they are,but I couldn't tell you in the slightest way what exactly I need to be shopping for. I can't imagine staying away from bread (whole wheat/multi grain only) or pasta (whole wheat) and potatoes (implemented change from gold potatoes to sweet potatoes).

I think everyone is different. I personally find that I'm more satiated if my ratios are 50% carb and 25% each fat and protein.
But some people are clueless as to what these macronutrients really are. I had lunch with two friends today who are obsessed with cutting out all carbs, but they didn't realize that alcohol was a carb! I don't know what they thought it was... protein???0 -
I try to stick to 40% carb/30% protein/30% fat. That keeps my carbs down some and protein up. I'm also diabetic, so that's added incentive not to eat large quantities of carbohydrate packed food. That being said, everyone needs to find what works for them. Starting with a dietician is a good way to go if you need additional information or a starting point. Hope you're able to find the right ratios for you!0

I have a hard time with the pie chart too because in Deal a Meal, there are vegetables and dairy, and apparently these go under carbs on this pie chart! :ohwell: Apparently anything that isn't protein or fat, is carbs.0
