I don't watch the biggest loser, but today I decided to see what it's about (funny, right? after all these seasons ). anyway, it was the second week and everybody was all scared of "week 2"...when they don't lose as much weight as before? why is that? what is going on with the body?

It's adapting to the shock of losing weight. The body is programmed to retain weight, that's why it's hard to lose.
The first week is easiest. Because you go from laying around doing nothing to diet and exercise and it shocks the hell out of it and pounds drop easily.
Then week 2 rolls and your body figures out you are torturing it and finds a way to adjust metabolic rate to retain as much energy as it can (fat). This is why to successfully diet you need to mix up both diet and exercise and not just fall into a routine or your body will happily take all that hard work and wipe its *kitten* with it on the scale.0 -
Don't feel like an outsider, this is only the third season of watching for me... but have found the show an inspiration.0

I love the show, and have always found it inspirational! I have watched since season 1 and I'm having a hard time getting into it this season without Jillian!0
