All this talk about exercise calories has got me thinking, what do they do on Biggest Loser??
Do they eat back any, some or most of their exercise calories?
I wonder!

not all diet plans follow the eating back excercise calories.0
-
i'm fairly certain they do not consume their exercise calories.
which is why they lose such drastic amounts of weight.0 -
That is NOT apples to apples. When you have as much weight to lose as those people do, they have PLENTY of excess fat to burn. Plus, they are working out 6-8 hours a day, burning 7000+ calories a day. There is NO WAY they could eat that much extra food.
They aren't losing that much weight because they aren't eating their exercise calories. They are losing that much weight because they have no TV, no internet and all they do is workout, eat small, healthy meals and sleep. ANYONE would lose weight if that is what they did.
This analogy is like comparing a 6-year-old quarterback to Tom Brady. Not even in the same ballpark.0 -

Well...since Tom Brady acts like a 6 year old every time he gets knocked down, this comparison isn't that great either.   He whines and cries for a a flag whenever he gets looked at funny...0 -
I actually did the Biggest Loser Plan online through www.biggestloserclub.com. The program never mentioned anything about eating back calories. In fact, my daily caloric intake was about 1100cal!!!!!0

Because MFP does it differently than most other programs. MFP already factors in the needed deficit for weight loss. Seriously people, did any of you even read the way this program was constructed when you signed up????0 -
On Biggest Loser they eat very low calorie and exercise excessively. The contestants are very overweight and lose ridiculously large amounts of weight. I'm sure they don't even consider exercise calories, but that doesn't mean thayer you shouldn't!
Remember it's entertainment, not real life!0 -

...and, not to be rude, but you're still trying to reach your goal weight, so I think your story is case and point in favor of eating your exercise calories.0 -
Hehehe, Patientbeartiger is not patient today. Quite right though!0

healthy weight loss & biggest loser tv show are mutually exclusive.0

i was simply answering the poster's question.
never said it was the right way to do things.
all they do is exercise... and they don't eat their exercise calories.
hence they lose drastic amounts of weight.
it isn't healthy at all... but it is what they do.0 -
It would be interesting to learn more about what goes on behind the scenes on the US and Australian versions of TBL. I have heard the trainers on the Australian show tell the contestants that they are training as athletes and so they have to eat like athletes. They have also talked about giving the body enough fuel to burn.
I'm not trying to suggest that the Australian version has contestants eat back their exercise calories or anything, just that these comments have made me wonder.0 -

Well I for one outweigh, I think all of the ladies on BL... I have 1530 cals per day, Sometimes I burn 500, sometimes over 1000, Sometimes I eat some back, sometimes I don't... I think I will keep that up until I hit a plateau then re-adjust...
Also, I know its a show, but it IS these people's real life... I certanly don't expect to lose 10lbs in one week, but until I'm a little lighter, I don't think 4 is unreasonable0 -
One of my friends did the Aussie one and she told me they get 1000 calories to eat per day (in total, not net), and they are expected to burn at least 1000 calories per hour of exercise....0

Who was your friend? I've watched all the aussie ones!0 -

i am sure they dont eat back..they work those peeps out like crazy, all day long..and have to stick to a strict calorie diet. the whole point if you watch them is they workout to burn calories..thats what its all about..there is no way they could eat all those back anyways.0

I highly doubt they eat back their exercise calories. I also think that BL isn't an example of how real life weight loss works. Always keep in mind that regardless of everything else - it is a tv show and they want these people to see HUGE losses on the scale (it makes great tv, right?).
Also, they are in a controlled environment with nothing to distract them from weight loss.
I don't think their way of losing weight is very realistic for "normal" people who can't spend 8 hrs a day working out, have their meals prepared for them and live on a ranch for months on end with a personal trainer.0 -

Um, I was answering the original posted question....?
and yes. I did know what I was signing up for.0 -

I didn't have a story, or a case. The original post said - I wonder if people on the BL program have to eat back their exercise calories. I was on the program and was only stating what the program had me do when I was on it. Not sure what your point is with the "and not to be rude..." comment.... ?0
